What are the Best Countries for Indian Students to Study Abroad?

First, the good news. Indian students have many amazing opportunities to study abroad! Countries the world over understand that Indian primary and secondary schools are turning out well-prepared students, and want the opportunity to have these students attend their schools and universities.

Indian students have shown themselves to be fantastic additions not just to schools, but also to the communities those schools are in. With so many opportunities, it can be difficult for prospective students to narrow down their choices.

This article is designed to help them do just that. The list is heavy on English speaking countries, as this is the international language of business currently. While it may change in the future, it holds true, as of now.

We are going to go over some of the best countries for Indians students to study abroad, and why.

United States of America

The US is home to more of the top universities in the world than any other nation, which draws in a large number of international students every year, including many from India. These universities offer more opportunities than almost any other university in any other country can provide.

There are countless programs, and these programs set up prospective students with strong personal and professional networks. These networks can help students find jobs and opportunities the world over. Diplomas from the United States have a recognition rate that is difficult to match.

There is also the opportunity to stay in the United States post-graduation that many prospective students find difficult to pass up. Finally, while education in the United States is rather expensive, there are financial aid and scholarships available to many incoming students.

The United Kingdom

If you take a look at the top universities in the world, the UK is home to the oldest and some would argue most prestigious. The degree recognition rate for the UK is almost that of the United States.

There are also as many research opportunities here as in any other country. You can also work while you study in the UK. Many students find it valuable to work while in school to better showcase the valuable skills to prospective employers.

The UK also invites those who finish their studies to stay in the country through their Tier 2 Visa and Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa programs.

Canada

The opportunity for students to study in Canada has risen steadily over the past 10 years. Canada is home to some of the finest institutions in any country and to growing Indian immigrant communities.

Canadian education tends to be much more affordable than those found in the US or the UK. It also boasts the best quality of living score in the entire world as rated by the US World and News Report!

Australia

Australia is ranked third in the world for study destinations in the world behind the US and the UK and has the infrastructure to admit large groups of international students. It has many wonderful universities that rank highly globally, including 8 in the top 100 per the QS World University Rankings. It also has many different programs and options for study.

Education in Australia is affordable, and there are still many scholarship opportunities available to prospective students to make it more so. It is also closer to home than the other Western Hemisphere English speaking countries for those students who may wish to travel back more often.

New Zealand

New Zealand is Australia’s neighbour to the east and boasts many of the same opportunities for foreign students that Australia does. It is an absolutely beautiful country, welcoming to foreign students, and home to many educational programs that Indian students may wish to study.

Like the above countries, it also gives Indian students an opportunity to practice their English language skills on a daily basis, and like Australia, it’s relatively close to home.

Germany

Germany is a very warm and welcoming destination for international students and those from India in particular. There are fantastic learning opportunities in this old country, ones that an Indian student would be amiss to not research. While learning German may not be a necessity for courses taught in English, studying the language before arrival and working on your language skills while there will help you integrate into the country.

One of the biggest payoffs for a foreign student studying here is access to the rest of the European Union. Once graduated, it is possible to apply for a visa to stay in the EU, which spans almost all of the countries in Europe! This gives Germany a leg up on the UK, which has been struggling with Brexit recently and may pull out of the EU altogether.

China

China is the dark horse of the bunch. The higher education system In China was closed off until the 1970s but has since exploded. It has become one of the top destinations for international students in the world, and recently accepted more students from India than the UK did.

China is looking to engage with the world to a much higher degree than it ever has, and understands that its role as an educational leader can greatly impact its role in globalization and governance. Education costs are cheap in China, especially when compared to the US and the UK. Education is world class, especially for medicine.

The opportunity to learn Mandarin cannot be ignored either. While English is still the international language of business, with the ‘One Belt, One Road’ policy, China has expanded its influence and the influence of the Mandarin language.

Conclusion

As you can see, prospective Indian students who wish to study internationally have many opportunities. The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have traditionally had the finest universities in the world. And while English speaking countries have traditionally been where many Indian students have landed to continue their studies, other exciting opportunities are popping up.

Countries like Germany can offer prospective students’ entry into the EU now that the UK may be leaving. As China announces itself more forcefully on the world stage, students can expect more opportunities to study there, and learn the Mandarin language, an increasingly valuable skill.

In all, Indian students who wish to gain the experience of living in another country and learning about another culture should have no problems finding a place to go.
