Why Canada is One of the Best Countries to Study Abroad?

What’s the first thing you think of when you think of Canada? Many people would say snow. And yes, Canada gets its fair amount of the white stuff. But there is so much more, especially for prospective students from abroad!

Canada is home to amazing schools and universities, with some found in the lists of the top universities in the world. The location is fantastic as well, whether you want to live and study incites, in the countryside, or in the mountains.

Some of the greatest cities in the world are found in Canada, and the opportunities found in them draw in visitors and people who want to live there in the millions. Canada has recently ramped up its offers to international students. From 2015 to 2017, enrollment by foreign students has shot up by over 40%!

In this article, we are going to explore the reasons why this is happening. We will also look at career opportunities that keep foreign students in the country well after they graduate. We will explore why Canada should be at the top of every student’s list when they think of countries that they may want to study abroad.

World Class Institutions

First, Canada is home to some of the best universities in the world.  From the University of Toronto and the University of Montreal on the eastern end of Canada to the University of British Columbia on the western end, Canada has 10 universities in The World University Rankings top 200.

Every program that a student would want to study can be found here. Students have the opportunity to learn from and study with faculty and researchers respected the world over for their expertise. From computer science to law. From medicine to physics. From culinary school to forestry, there is something for everyone here.

More Opportunities to Attend School

Not only does Canada have world-class institutions, but they also provide cheaper study options and simpler application processes than many other nations. If a student is looking to attend school in Canada, then they are most likely looking at other countries where English is the predominant language, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

While the United States has been pulling back and making it more difficult for visa applicants in general, Canada has been opening its doors to prospective students. It even has special accelerated visa programs for legal residents of China, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam that shorten the turnaround time to 20 calendar days!

With the United Kingdom pulling out of the EU, and Australia pulling back on potential visas as well, Canada is picking up the slack.

Amazing Locations

As said earlier, some of the greatest cities in the world can be found in Canada. There are cultural centres that offer a person whatever they could want. Cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver are known worldwide for their theatre, food, shopping, arts, culture, and business. Vancouver on the west coast is consistently ranked in the top 5 cities for livability in the world.

Maybe a prospective student is looking for a more rural setting? Canada has some great wide open spaces to get away to, and colleges and universities in these locations as well. Maybe you like the mountains? The Canadian Rockies are one of the great ranges of the world and an outdoor playground for those that want to experience it.

Other Students

With a large number of foreign students arriving in Canada to study and learn, campuses across the country are taking on a more and more cosmopolitan feel. When students come together, ideas cross-pollinate, and a more dynamic student body emerges. Canada welcomes that! There are many migrant communities here, and foreign students are welcomed like never before.

You will also be among some of the smartest and driven students in the world. Graduates from Canadian universities go on to be business leaders, doctors, lawyers, scientists, chefs, artists, and philosophers. Whatever career path you see, know that students who have studied in Canada are some of the leaders in those fields.

Safety

Canada is one of the safest countries in the world. We know that studying abroad can be exciting, but also stressful, and it is important for students to feel safe. According to the Global Peace Index, Canada ranked 6th in peace and safety for 2018. Crime is rare here, and we like to believe that the Canadian culture is welcoming to all people.

Quality of Life

How high do you think Canada ranks in terms of quality of life against other countries? Is it in the top 25? Maybe in the top 10? What if I told you that Canada is, in fact, the number 1 country in the world for quality of life by the US World and News Report!

The ranking metrics were determined by affordability, job market, economic stability, family friendliness, income equality, political stability, safety, and public education and health system. There is a reason so many people want to live here!

Job Opportunities Post-Graduation

Post-graduation, students can either head back to their home countries, or have the option of staying in Canada. It is easy to apply for a three-year work permit or even a residency permit. Canada wants to grow its population, and a well-educated and cosmopolitan foreign student base is perfect to draw from. What can Canada offer graduating students?

Canada is home to 12 Fortune 500 companies, as well as home to large offices of many more. It has one of the largest economies in the world! World class hospitals are available for those in the medical field.

Art is appreciated in Canada, and those that practice it can find many career opportunities. And even if you don’t want to stay in Canada, that’s ok. Career opportunities and earnings potential for graduates of Canadian institutions will set you up for life wherever you may choose to call home.
