Stanford Welcomes New Graduate International Students from 101 Countries

You are here: Home / News / Stanford Welcomes New Graduate International Students from 101 Countries

September 16, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

This year Stanford is going to welcome a lot of new students for different sorts of academic programs in all seven schools. They have taken in a total of 2607 international students. Out of which 54 per cent is male, and 42 per cent is female, all ranging in between the age group of 20 to 66 years.

The academic programs which are offered to these students include master’s degree courses, doctoral courses as well as professional degree courses. The entire new lot of students consists of 982 international pupils in which Chinese students formed the majority. There are international students coming from 101 countries in total which is a record in itself only.

This year’s theme for Stanford is going to be called as ”home away from home”. The theme is what the senior students and authorities are working towards. And, they are making Stanford provide a homely feel to all the international students, no matter how many numbers of years they spend there.

The orientation program started with a lunch event organised by the Stanford Alumni Association, a brunch for graduate student couples. Families were arranged. The Graduate life office also hosted an innumerable number of workshops throughout the week including panel discussions by fellow students, resource workshops, social gatherings, and a lot more for networking opportunities as well.

The NGSO will also host an innumerable number of programs. There will be nearly 40 events taking place under the supervision of NGSO where graduate students will come and share their experience of student life spent at Stanford. The newly admitted students will be asked to come to MEET VPGE, which will help them enhance their academics by providing resources and programming as well.

The old students or the graduated one will come here. They will interact with the newly admitted students and share their knowledge about Stanford’s disciplinary practices, lifestyle. Also, they will share how they can carry on education along with a proper social life there, even if they are from a whole different country.

There will be another event hosted by the centre for teaching and learning. There an academic coach will be present to motivate the new students in order to excel in their academics by doing the least difficult things. They will provide ways on how a student can overcome laziness and stop procrastinating as well while they plan to study.

Also, they will offer with those other ways of enhancing academic conditions, increasing concentration power including a lot of basic things which students need to practice in order to enhance their academic career.

Also, the new grad pupils will be invited for dinner at the resident of Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne, this is a golden opportunity for the students to see the president in person. There will be food served for them along with an extensive interaction session for the students as well.

The NGSO organizers will also make sure the students get an opportunity to interact with each other in order to help them build connections properly.
