LUCID DREAMS- A Problem for International Students

Dreams can turn into nightmares and can affect almost anyone. Lucid dreams are the ones where the person is aware that he/she is dreaming. The dreamer gains control over the state of affairs in a lucid dream.

International students can face problems such as sleep deprivation, anxiety, and restlessness if the same lucid dreams keep occurring. An idea turns into a nightmare when the situation is not welcoming and takes a toll on mental health.

An improper lucid dream can become an uncomfortable nightmare and affect intellectual sanity. As an international student who is away from his/her house, he/she can have recurring dreams where he/she is at home, and this makes him/her feel homesick.

Dreams of a person can affect his/her routine tasks and daily life activities. Similarly, an international student who is staying away from the country, home, and loved ones observe a change in dreaming patterns and the situation in the dream, which is normal.

Sometimes the thoughts are an imitation of the person’s reality. But occasionally they can bring serious consequences, and some are explained below-

1. Exhaustion and Tiredness

Students need time to relax at night to get ready to focus on the study tasks for tomorrow. But when lucid dreams become a problem for them, they can feel tired and restless the other day.

Studies suggest that staying awake early morning hours or disrupted sleep can make a person fatigued and exhausted for the day. International students who are already adjusting to the time zones of the country and are shifting their sleep patterns accordingly can face trouble falling asleep. Practising meditation can help fall asleep sooner and can get rid of unwanted dreams.

2. False Memories

If you are an international student who is having recurring dreams about memories, it is not a big deal. But if these memories become bad dreams where you feel you have done something wrong. This makes you stay anxious and makes you feel strange about it.

When you are asleep, you are not aware of the fact that you are dreaming, and sometimes you have little or no control over what is happening. Surreal memories can leave you annoyed and grumpy for days. One right way to avoid this is by making a sleep journal. An asleep journal can help you record the dreams, and it will make it easier to track which memories you are stuck with.

3. Repeated Unreal Wakening

A repeated theoretical awakening is when you wake up and dress up and carry on with other routine tasks, but you are asleep. Then you wake up again and do things that you usually do after waking up, but you would be dreaming still. This continues to happen, and you are not able to differentiate reality from dreams.

This problem can be solved. All you have to do in such a situation is check for signs around you. If you are dreaming, everything will be blurry or different than in real life.

4. Interrupted Sleep

Dreams can become a problem when you dream about situations that make you uncomfortable, and you will try your best to escape them. This can make you restless, and cake wakes you in the middle of the night. Waking up several times during the night will make you cranky and can take away your power to concentrate while studying.

5. Homesickness

Dreaming of the home can be the reason for anyone to miss home, including international students. If you are dreaming of your old school, way to your house, or being together with a loved one, you can feel homesick. Homesickness disturbs students deeply.

Dreaming of home every night can become horrifying to the extent that you start missing everyone and everything so much that you want to leave for home. This recurring dream problem can distress the state of mind and emotions of students who are away from everything they love.

A simple assessment can overcome this problem. All you have to do is some thinking. Think about what you will be leaving behind if you went home. Ask yourself, will you be happy if you left in the middle of your course of study? Think of the things in a rational way to make a marginal decision.

6. Fear Falling Asleep

When you are not lucid dreaming properly, you may get scared at night. Nightmares occur when your subconscious is controlling what you see. In such a state, you are not aware of whatever is happening is a dream or not.

In such situations, you cannot control anything happening around you within the goal and leaves you hopeless at the end when things so the opposite way. Such dreaming can cause trouble falling asleep. You may take long falling asleep because you would remember how you felt the night before.

A way to fix this is to dream properly and gain control of the circumstances. When you lucid dream the right way, you can change and shift the conditions. You can make changes in the setting within the idea and twist the plot according to your desire.

To lucid dream properly, you should observe signs and details around you to recognize that you are dreaming. Once you know you are dreaming, you would no longer be scared and will be able to change the dream and its impact.

Final Thoughts

Lucid dreams can affect an international student’s mental and physical health. To avoid sleep disorders, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle and good habits, along with studying. Dreams can affect almost anyone, but they cannot become a problem if you are healthy and well-slept.

Restlessness and sleep deprivation can trigger this lucid dreaming process to invite more restlessness. It is always better to take robust steps to solve this problem before it becomes a more significant issue.

If you feel the dreams remain problematic and make you irritable and bad-tempered, you should see a doctor or a mental health professional help you overcome such complications. A goodnight’s sleep is vital to students for better focus and conscience.
