How To Study in Canada Without IELTS?

The trend of students going to other countries for further studies has increased in recent times. To generalize most of the students under one category and see how to perform, a standard test is taken, which is known as IELTS.

The thing is, even though it boosts your chances of getting an international university, it is a costly exam. It takes away time and energy as well as a big chunk of your money. So how do you get into their international institutions in Canada without giving IELTS? 

Common Ways To Study in Canada Without IELTS

There is various not one method to enter into designated learning institutions in Canada. You can use the following for that: 

  • Sit for some other English Proficiency Tests. One such exam is TOEFL. 
  • If you have studied in an English medium school for the last four years, then you can apply to some of the universities. 
  • If the country that you are from speaks English as their native language, then to you can apply for different courses at Canadian universities. 
  • You agree to attend Canadian language school for at least a semester or a full year. 

But did you know there are universities in Canada which accept students without them having to appear for IELTS? 

Top Universities in Canada Which Do Not Require IELTS: 

University of Winnipeg 

If you apply to the University of Winnipeg, then you can relax. There are no compulsory requirements for IELTS certification at this university. However, you cannot escape the importance of English in Canadian universities. So, you do have to appear for some other English proficiency exam in case you don’t want to look for IELTS.

There are much cheaper alternatives present for getting a certification in English proficiency. The University of Winnipeg offers ELP. ELP is short for English Language Program. It is one of the most appreciated English programs as it is relatively cheap and gets you a direct ticket to the university admissions office. 

In addition to this, if you have been living in Canada for the past ten years, and studying in a Canadian school for the past three years, then to you can exempt yourself from IELTS.

You can directly get admission into the Canadian universities without needing to appear for any English proficiency exam. In addition to this, if you are from countries that speak English, such as Zimbabwe and Nigeria, then to you don’t need any English certifications. 

Any tests or certifications that are older than two years old are not accepted in any of the Canadian universities. 

Brock University

IELTS can quickly get you a ticket to Bock university. But it is not necessary or mandatory. You can also appear for TOEFL or their IELP which stands for Brock Intensive English Language Program in case you don’t want to look for IELTS. Both of these options are relatively cheaper than IELTS.

In addition to this, if you have recently completed an International Baccalaureate diploma which was done in the English language, then you can get accepted into the university. With this, if you have studied in an English medium school for the past three years and have acceptable grades, then you can get yourself admission to Brock University. 

University of Saskatchewan

It is a world-renowned university. It is known for producing Nobel Prize Laureates and for their extensive research in their respective fields. The application for the university is very competitive. It currently has a rapidly growing international body of students, and the English proficiency tests that they have to appear for are harder and stricter than most.

Regardless, if you have the necessary qualifications, your admission will be a much more relaxed affair since the university likes to have more of international students on its campus. 

They accept English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, and the CanTEST, which is short for the Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees. In case you don’t want any other additional English certification, you can also opt for their English Language Training Program.

But if you have had studied in an English medium school for the last three years which offers a Canadian curriculum in English regardless of it being in Canada or not, you can get accepted based on this as well.

In addition to this, if you happen to have an Advanced Placement English Qualification or an International Baccalaureate diploma, you can still apply smoothly and get accepted. 

Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador

The university has around 18,000 students in its campuses and has a 66% acceptance rate overall. It is also one of the top-ranked universities in all of Canada. It is a reputable college for offering courses such as Engineering, medicine, and business, and this is the reason why a lot of international students want to enrol in this university. 

In case you haven’t appeared for IELTS, you can still apply in the university by sending either CanTEST, CAEL, or TOEFL test scores. The university also happens to offer its ELP or ESL classes and examinations through which you can get direct admission as well.

You can also get a head start by enrolling yourself for an online English learning class which is offered personally by the university. At the same time, if you can show to the university any kind of proof that you are proficient in English, then to you can apply directly. 

Cambrian College

It is a famous college with most of its focus lying on research and after school employment. The college is known for accepting international students with a warm welcome. It has also signed agreements with various other universities in Canada which provides international students in Canada to continue their studies with other educational institutions as well.

You don’t require IELTS for this college or even TOEFL. The college personally analyses your English speaking and writing skills once you visit the campus and based on that either accepts your application or rejects it.
