Studying abroad is the most exciting experience. But, going anywhere as an international student makes you worried and there will be a lot of thoughts in your mind, especially what the struggles would be like? Meeting new peoples, learning a new language, amongst many other things, for some, moving to another country isn’t an easy transition.

So here are the most common challenges faced by international students while studying abroad, and how overcoming these problems will prepare you for your successful student life!

Table of Contents

  • Homesickness
  • Language barriers
  • Time Management
  • Currency Differences & Finances
  • New culture & value system

Homesickness

Peoples have lived many years of my life at my home, and this is the next new chapter so a student might get feel homesickness. It is a natural feeling when everything around you is so unfamiliar. You never thought, but you actually miss your kid sister, you miss mom’s terrible cooking.

How to overcome it!

There are several ways quiet down the thoughts reminding you just how far away from home you actually are. So, what you can do is keep pictures of the people that you love of your parents or anybody that you love and not on your phone but the pictures that you can hold it.

Because sometimes you will feel extremely frame to be on your table in front of your eyes and not let go through your phone so nice that is what really helps a thing it’s just it gives you reassurance that you know you have people even not in your own country and you’re when you are studying abroad. You may get involved in new hobbies, interest, clubs or adventures in your study abroad destination. Get out of it and explore your area, and you will definitely move up with the feeling of past the nostalgic.

Language barriers

The language barrier is one of the most common challenges for international students while studying abroad. Perhaps you have spent the last many years studying the language, but once you arrive in the country, it feels completely foreign to you.

In order to overcome this challenge, you need to make an honest effort to familiarize yourself with local cultural norms and language. If you are not perfect in the country’s first language, then you can carry related translation dictionary or fill up your smartphone with related foreign language apps.

Time Management

It takes a long time to do everything by yourself. It is expected to do everything on our own, and that can be overwhelming for most of the international students. From getting groceries to preparing meals and keeping the house clean to budgeting your monthly expense and much more. So, studying abroad would actually teach you to act grown-up. And there is a significant need to develop an art of time management.

Currency Differences & Finances

Getting familiar to foreign currency is another common challenge that international students face. The spending habit will be the same compared to what they have at home. Not having your family member nearby to help you financially can cause you some stress, but then, take it as an opportunity to learn within a budget and how to manage money.

New culture & value system

The culture and value system of the home country differ widely from places like the US, the UK, Australia, NZ or any European countries. Apart from being familiar with languages and currencies, you need to keep pace with the local culture. At home, you don’t realize the day to day things you do which may be unfamiliar to foreigners, the “unwritten rules.”Getting exposed to such diverse cultures will teach you to adjust to the positive aspects of each culture and even teaches valuable lessons to be learned. You will eventually adapt and act just like a local.
