Donald Trump proclaimed on Friday to impediment the migrant visa applicants from entering the US if they are not able to prove they can provide the health insurance or will not be financially strong to pay for medical care.
This proclamation will take effect from November 3rd, 2019. The visa applicants who wish to immigrate to the US will have to prove to consular officials that within 30 days of their entry in the country, they will pay for the medical costs. It will make the situation worse-off for the people who are not financially strong to pay for health insurance.
Trump said in the proclamation that immigrants who enter this country should not load our healthcare system and taxpayers with higher costs. Accepted health insurance includes employer-sponsored and family coverage plans and short term plans. Medicaid or Affordable Care Act aid is not included in the approved health insurance in the light of the proclamation.
The immigrants who issued a valid visa before proclamation are excluded. The refugees and asylum seekers are also exempted. The children of US citizens, minors who are unaccompanied, permanent residents who were residing overseas less than a year, and are returning to the US, and special immigrant visas of Iraqi and Afghan nationals who worked for the government are also an exception to the rule.
This proclamation would affect half a million of people who are trying to seek green cards from overseas who are mostly parents and spouses of the US citizens. It bypasses Congress, and there is no window left open for public comments.
The details of health insurance, such as the foreseeable medical expenses, money one needs to show, or the guarantee of getting health insurance in the future, are still vague. The proclamation is said to be administrative solicit to restrict legal immigration and transmute immigrant populations in the US.
Though it is undoubtedly going to face court challenges from the advocates of immigrant rights, till then is going to initiate a lot of confusion and fear amongst the immigrants and the applicants.
Rand, the co-founder of Boundless immigration, a company that aids the immigrants to get a green card and citizenship, said that no forms are yet to be filled. The standards of the rule are also still unclear.
The acting US citizenship and Immigration Director, Ken Cuccinelli, said that it would enhance the self-sufficiency and self-reliance of the people who are trying to come and stay in the US. Still, the advocates do not agree with him. They believe that this proclamation will further create difficulty for the poorer countries, keep the families apart from one another and legal residents to give up as they will need public aid.
Rand was reported to say that this matter will come before the court of law, and no one can stop it, but still, they are waiting for the rule to be implied as soon as the date arrives.
