International Students Require Help to Improve English in Australia

A large number of international students who are studying in Australian universities are giving a large number of fees. But they have not good English spoken skills.

All the lectures are conducted in the English language and it put pressure on international students to pass the subject. Sometimes, this situation becomes very terrible for students and university. As a result, the universities are facing fear to suffer from intellectual accuracy and global reputation.

It is not a surprising finding that generally, international students have a low English literacy rate. If you have been in Australian universities in the past few years, then you have already a lot of idea about this issue.

Social and academic issues can be generated by language barriers for international students. Social isolation can happen when an international student is not able to communicate other fellows due to language difficulties.

Low English comprehension becomes a notable problem for international students. It takes time to become fluent in any new language rather than the mother tongue and also used to with the university’s structure.

The English language barrier may generate issues like plagiarism and essay buying which plague Australian universities. Aside from these issues, Australia wants to continue the captivating business of international students for having a great revenue.

Possibly, it is the right time rethink the system. International students are paying a huge amount of fees and charges in Australia. Most of the world’s highest ranked universities are in Australia. Education is Australia’s third largest export behind iron ore and coal and it is worth about $33 billion, said by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Some Australian universities are already arranging English language classes for international students to help them improve their skills but these classes are not sufficient.

They have introduced some services which can translate academic data into another language. This service has still not supported international students with their assignments. As a result, international students have a disadvantage due to the lack of English language support.

A huge number of Australia’s international students come to European countries which includes Germany, and also in India and China. These universities also offer courses in English to attract more international students.

Universities can more develop their infrastructure for international students with confined English language comprehension and everyone can get advantages from it. Universities are also facing some problems like failure of students due to a lack of English comprehension.

No doubt, English becomes a language of international trade but global trade powerhouses are now China and India. Our English-centric education system will restrict the student’s ability to interact on the world stage openly.

Australia should rethink about their higher education system and should adjust to the changing reality of foreign language. It should add some flexible adjustments for high revenue generator international students.

If international students are giving thousands of dollars then universities should take responsibility for their failure too just due to the language barrier. We require to modify the future of language rather than living in the past and end the English is enough mindset.
