Integrated Study Work Visa Should be Introduced in the UK

To get the lost market share in their hands, the UK Government has reintroduced the two-year post-study work visa for the financial year 2020 and 2021. With the reintroduction of this policy, the UK Government will not only capture the market share, but they will also boost the economy and help financially drained educational universities.

However, the policy change by Boris Johnson is being praised by different sectors. However, international students will still have to face the adverse effects of the UK visa system both before and after their studies.

UK- A Demanding Nation for Education

The UK has been one of the most beloved nations for international students. The reason is that the UK has world-class universities and offers top-class education which ensures a brighter future. Talking about the demand, in India only there was a huge demand for the nation’s higher education institutions.

However, after 2012 then home secretary revoked the two-year post-study work visa which resulted in a 40 per cent drop in the interest and demand. With the reintroduction of the policy by the new UK government, it will be a positive change. It will intrigue international students to join the UK universities.

To ensure everything goes well, University minister of UK Chris Skidmore is closely working with all the colleagues along with the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial sectors, home and foreign office.

The main aim is to make a positive international education strategy which will be supported by UK Council, Universities along with the CBI. However, the governance of Theresa May might have adverse results on the growth of the UK’s education system.

Current Happening In the UK

The reintroduction of policy has started giving fruitful results to the UK government. As per the research of IDP, it has been noticed that Indian students have already shifted their interest from Australian universities to UK Universities as soon as the announcement broke out.

Not only this, International students will fill the creative vacancies. The number of international students will rise once the policy has been re-implemented successfully. According to the 2019 report of Higher Education Policy, the international students who stay in the UK for work almost pay 3.2 billion pounds in tax.

The reintroduction of policy has happened at the time when the US and China have been engaged in a trade war. This is automatically resulting in Chinese students to rely on UK universities instead of the US. Not only this, with the policy all the universities in the UK will be able to vanish their financial pressures. And they will also be able to provide cultural diversity in the campus.

Negative Impacts of the Policy

As there are positive impacts, there are also negative impacts related to the reintroduction of the policy. International students who have a short-term visa either to learn English or get a particular degree, have to apply for a Tier 4 visa to continue their studies in UK Universities.

In case the students want to change their course or institutions, they have to reapply their Tier 4 visa. To do that, they have to revisit their native country to start the process. Ultimately, this process will be creating a lot of trouble and hassle to students which would result in an added pressure.

If the international students are meeting all the requirements of the visa process, they will get their visa and continue their studies in UK universities.

Benefits of a Streamlined Visa

If the UK government implements a properly integrated visa system, it will be an aid to international students who are studying in UK universities. From a long time, the UK government’s neglected attitude towards international students has been sending the wrong impressions in the mind of international students.

However, if the proper visa system is implemented, all the problems will be solved. The implementation of an integrated visa system will help the UK government to get back their lost market share stay. They lost the same due to their neglected attitude towards international students.

Not only this, a proper system will reduce the burden from all the departments, including the home, along with reducing the financial burden of the UK universities.

One of the significant benefits that the UK government will get from an integrated visa system is that it will send a loud and clear message to all the international students that, the nation has opened its doors for young, creative and talented minds.

As the market share of the UK’s education system is near 21.4 billion pounds, as stated by the UK government, it will be the best decision to implement an adequately integrated visa system. It will increase the goodwill of the nation.
