The United Kingdom’s home office has announced significant changes in the visa policy effective from October. These changes are said to be occurring for the tier 2 visa category, innovator visa, and UK startup schemes, the tier 1 exceptional talent visa, and the EU settlement scheme.
The most significant of all is the SOL that is the expansion of tier 2 shortage occupation list as it will bring several new jobs and will eradicate the skill shortages in the UK.
The following are the main changes made in the visa and immigration.
1. Tier 2 Visa Category:
It ensures the sponsorship of skilled EEA nationals by UK companies for jobs in Britain. Around 2000 tier 2 visas are available every month, making a total of 20,700 annually. Or the migrants within Uk, there is no limit yet announced. The changes include the addition of some job roles in SOL, and priority is given to them when applying for a tier 2 visa. The PhD level job roles are removed, and migrants will not be refused ILR if they are absent due to illness, parental leave, or any crisis.
2. Tier 1 Visa:
This visa is for the talent skill sets in the areas of engineering, science, arts, and technology who wish to come to the UK without sponsorship.
The changes advised of these applicants are that the National Institute for Health Research will be included in the peer-reviewed fellowship.
The applicant who peer-reviewed fellowship and applied immediately before the application date will be included. For more senior academic or research positions, the criteria will be relaxed for them to qualify comfortably.
The applicants who wish to pursue approval from Tech Nation are advised of the changes that they need three letters support instead of two will now be required to show active businesses developed in the technology sector. And the impact they would make to the industry and the inclusion of product-led, which will enhance the possibility of visa issued to the talented applicants.
3. Startup Visa
These are the visa for entrepreneurs who wish to start a business in Britain backed up by an approved body. The changes advised of these applicants is the fulfilment of criteria to qualify as an approved body. Students can apply for startup visa due to changes in tier 4 visa and conflict of interest or criminality records can make the request of endorsing organization to be denied.
4. EU Settlement Scheme:
This scheme for the EEA and Swiss nationals to apply to reside in Britain after 2020.
The changes will allow the family members of the nationals to apply also to reside in the UK, non-EEA family members will also be allowed to apply to stay in the UK and the invalidated immigrants to challenge the decision applied on their application.
5. Post-study Work Visa and Review of the Australian Immigration System:
The restoration of the two-year post-study visa and analysis of the Australian immigration system and other countries are also the changes in the UK immigration rules.
