A Canadian program called the Express Entry program is designed to fasten the hiring of foreign talent. It is attracting thousands of tech workers and skilled employees, especially from the USA.
The Global Skills Strategy (GSS), which came into effect in 2017, has attracted around 24,000 people since its inception. The program provides temporary work permits in just two weeks for top international talents in various categories such as software engineering. It also offers permit exemptions for managers and researchers over short term periods.

The GSS approach is a stark contrast to President Donald Trump’s efforts to crack down on the immigration of high-tech employees into the USA and has consequently been a part of Canada’s expansive strategy to propel growth through higher foreign inflows. According to the Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen , the program has enabled Canadian technology companies to be more agile and flourishing.
About a one-fourth of the workers who are coming in were primarily based in the USA as they are often unhappy with the tougher visa restrictions that had been imposed by Trump’s government. The inflow has been noticeably observed in top categories like computer and media programs, software engineers and university professors. The majority of applicants are also noted to be Indian nationals.
The principal Express Entry job applicants were further accompanied by about 16,000 family members, who were provided the freedom and ability to work and study in Canada.
The increasing numbers of the highly skilled foreign workforce have caused a surge in migration into Canada. For a country that has been battling with aging demographics and slowing growth, this influx of labor is seen is as a welcoming move. The rise in international migration has helped to fuel a sharp rise in employment, especially because immigrants are of the working age.
Canada has added 321,065 immigrants in the year 2018, which is the largest annual increase since 1913. There was also been a surge of migration of non-permanent residents in other fields like foreign students and temporary workers.
This massive exodus helped Canada’s population grow by 528,421 last year, which has been the biggest increase since the late 1950s. as a result, Toronto was predicted to be the fastest growing city in terms of technology boost in 2017.
The Government of Canada is seeking high achievement applicants for giving them an opportunity to participating in a Postdoctoral Research Program. The application will be accepted if, the aspirants are currently enrolled in a doctoral program at a recognized post-secondary institution. The scholars of this program will be hired as term Scientific Research (SE-RES) employees.
