The Best Universities in Kenya

Are you a high school graduate looking for the best University to join in Kenya? We have got a solution for you. Kenya is among the top five leading countries in Africa when it comes to higher education. Many scholars across the world consider it as a center for Information Technology (IT).

The education system has significantly contributed to the economic, social, and political development of the country. Kenya has about 22 public universities, 14 private universities, and 12 other universities are not yet approved but operate with Interim Authority Letter, totaling to 48 recognized universities.

Knowing the best universities to join is not as easy as many of us may think, due to a large number of universities. Webometrics, however, uses specific parameters to show the universities that are providing quality education services to the students.

According to the current ranking, the top six universities in Kenya include:

University of Nairobi (UoN)

Established in 1956, the University of Nairobi has become the largest University in Kenya with over ten thousand employees including supporting staff and lecturers. It offers post-graduate, graduates, and undergraduate programs.

The University has been known for providing the best lawyers in the country. Example of the prominent lawyers who studied there are James A. Orengo, Otieno Omollo, and Paul Mwite among others.

According to the current World Ranking in terms of development and education performance, the University was placed among the top 100 alongside Duke University and Johns Hopkins University of the United States.

Cultural diversity is another thing the University embraces. Since its establishment, the University has been employing lecturers and admitting students across the world, based on their academic performance, not family status. It accepts international students.

Kenyatta University of Science and Technology

Kenyatta University is ranked the second after the University of Nairobi according to the development and student performance in the Kenyan universities. It is located on Nairobi-Thika Road, a few kilometers from Nairobi town.

Since its establishment, the University has introduced many different modes of study like e-Learning and Part-Time, allowing students to choose the best method of study that suits them. Also, Kenyatta University has the best education facilities such as two big libraries, namely Old Moi Library and Modern Library to enhance your educational performance.

Other facilities include adequate hostels, hotels, four playing fields, and monument among others. So, if you are looking for the University with a flexible mode of study, then, this the best place to go.

Moi University

Located in Eldoret town, Moi University has emerged to be the most promising University for providing quality education in the country. The University has adequate learning facilities including library to support and facilitate students to achieve their educational objectives. It also embraces cultural diversity.

As a student, you will get an opportunity to interact freely with other students within the University, and any student or lecturers found promoting discrimination within or outside the University faces severe consequences from the university disciplinary committee.

Egerton University

Egerton University is located in Njoro, few kilometers from Nakuru town. A recent study shows that Egerton University is among the largest and oldest Kenyan universities and provides quality education. The University admits students from different backgrounds within and outside the country.

Strathmore University

Although Strathmore University is a private institution, the University is recognized in Kenya and contributes a lot to the production of many well-disciplined graduates in the country.

The University is located in Karen, an outskirt of the Nairobi city. Its objective is to produce well-trained graduates who can perform to the expectation of the employers.

The current study shows that those who graduate from the University get absorbed quickly when it comes to the job market. Most of the employers in Kenya prefer candidates from this University to other universities.

In term of development, Strathmore University is equipped with many learning facilities including the standardized library. The library allows students to carry out their academic research effectively. Also, it advocates for cultural diversity, because it admits students from different parts of the country and the world too.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology

Established many years ago by the first president of Kenya, the University has been known by many people across the country as one of the largest and best universities offering engineering, mathematics, and statistics programs in the country.

It is located on the north part of Nairobi, Nairobi-Thika Road, specifically Juja town. With adequate facilities like computers, you grow your profession.

In general, although there are many universities in Kenya, the above-discussed universities are the best education institutions for Kenyan students as they embrace cultural diversity and are well-equipped in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and hostels.
