While everyone married could tell you that it is not only about candle dinners, roses but marriage also carries some drawbacks. A person comes to know about cons after the marriage. The rate of getting married is reduced at its lowest in all last 50 years. Still, there are many benefits of tying a knot. 

Is Marriage Part of Human Culture?

Marriage has been an important part of human culture for the last few years. In all cultures and religions, there is some sort of partnership ceremony. In many religions, men are allowed to have more than two wives.

While in some places, it is simply restricted to one man and one woman. In the last few decades, marriage has become less popular, basically in developed countries. The main reason for the decrease in marriage from mid of 19th to early 20 century is the increase in divorced rates all over the world.

Most of the teenagers don’t prefer marriage. They think that getting married will end their career, privacy, and life dreams. In most of the cases, we see that marriage brings happiness, social security, and a caring spouse. The coming generations are challenging the traditional concept of marriage.

In this article, we are going to discuss the pros and cons of marriage. Is getting married brings happiness?

Companionship Experience:

Most of the humans are not solitary and crave for companionship in life. Life becomes beautiful and filled with bright colours when you share your experiences with your partner who genuinely cares about your interests and concerns.

Sense of Acceptance:

Marriage is also an amazing way to show acceptance or true commitment to your partner. The sense of being loved by your partner is also an ecstasy feeling. While on the other hand, many government and corporate institutions have specific policies that give concessions to married couples all over the world.

Stability and Finances:

One of the biggest pros of marriage is that it benefits society as associated with stable families. Stable families gave birth to happier children who lead to fewer crimes or less social and economic problems in society. There are also financial pros after getting married as it lowers the tax rate.

Financial issues and legalities such as inheritance become easier to solve as a couple is married.

Partnership and Family Unit:

Marriage is sharing about all your problems with your partner. It helps to reduce the stress from which you are suffering continuously. Dividing your responsibilities leads to a happier life. For example, raising a child is easier for both parents rather than it is for one.

Marriage also gives a child two parents who help the child to become a complete and balanced individual. Children can now take inspiration from two different role models. It gives them strong potential support and helps them to become more strong mentally, emotionally, and practically.

Sex and Endurance:

Marriage also promises to help your spouse or better half in their difficult times to fulfil their dreams or wishes. In this way, you can better know your partner and desire to have a long everlasting relationship. Staying together also brings in your patience.

Moreover, it also reduces the chance of transferring sexually transmitted diseases. Couples who married are statistically expected to stay with one another for a lifetime unless they die.

Marriage Also Brings Religious Restrictions:

Most of the cultures have religious restrictions for getting married. Religious restrictions help you to deepen the bonds of a couple with one another. It also allows them to develop a spiritual connection with God and receive his blessings.

Cons of Marriage:

Marriages across all over the globe also have some cons.

  • Rut and infidelity issues
  • Family conflicts and lack of individuality
  • Limitations and conformity
  • Red tape and financial penalties
  • Expensive marriage ceremony
  • Staying stuck

Family Conflicts and Lack of Individuality:

Couples have to deal with their family problems by themselves which means they can be a source of misunderstandings and family conflicts. Moreover, marriage also restricts the freedom of an individual.

Single people live their life happily without caring about the needs of others while after marriage, both have to take care of each other needs and concerns.

Limitations and Conformity:

No doubt, society has moved on and developed, but the idea of marriage is still outdated. Rather than just seeing marriage as a source of maintaining relationships and limiting ourselves, we should try to embrace other relations as well, such as siblings, parent-child relation, and teacher-student relations. It is high time we need to get rid of the odd taboos.

Moreover, marriage is about asking for approval from civil and religious authorities. Rather it should be kept to two people option if they want to stay in a relationship or not. Relationships should be purely personal; no religion and government authorities should be involved.

Red Tape and Financial Penalties:

Getting married also means extra bureaucracy, especially when a wife changes her name and official documents such as driving license also modified. We also have many financial disadvantages of marriage.

The financial penalty means many couples end up paying more money in taxes than they have earned. However, divorce costs can also be huge in case of marrying the wrong person.

Expensive Marriage Ceremony:

It has also been observed that just for being ostentatious people spend more money on their marriages than they actually can afford. This makes marriage ceremony expensive as people now days are very concerned about maintaining their so-called social status. The whole process becomes daunting, especially for the parents of a girl.

Staying Stuck:

Most of the couples stay stuck as one of them is ill-mannered, but they patiently go through mental, emotional, or physical abuse for keeping the honour of their parents.

But the question arises why to stay stuck when relation has ceased already. We need to shut these conventional taboos and let the couple decide if they want to pursue this relationship or not.
