How to Show Your Passion about the Subject During College Interview?

Many colleges want to be sure that a student is truly interested in the subjects that they are applying for and would be able to further their career in these areas. To find this out, college interviewers would ask you a lot of questions and also encourage you to talk about ways in which the field of study that you have chosen will help you in the future.

It is natural for any student who has thought carefully about the subjects they want to choose to be able to display their passion for these subjects. Here are a few ways in which you can easily help the interviewer see that you are passionate about a subject:

Tell them ‘Why’

The best way to begin discussing your passion about a subject is to start talking about why you feel so strongly about it. Is there any reason why you picked this particular subject over others? Does it have a story?

You can discuss your motivations, and how you got about getting associated with this area of study. If you have experiences that can enrich your discussion about why you chose the subject, then you must share it with the interviewer. It will help them understand how close you are tied to the subject.

Talk about your hobbies

Mention how your hobbies are motivated by your interest or passion in a subject. If you are going to take up botany, then you can talk about how you have been into plants for a long time. You may even talk about gardening as your favorite hobby and how it has made a difference in how you perceive nature and everything in it.

Interviewers want to know about a genuine interest, so make sure that you do not go into building a lie about your hobby only for the sake of impressing the interviewer. Your interviewer will eventually see through the lie and it can impact negatively impact the outcome of the interview.

Identify your future in this field of study

If you are passionate about a subject, then you have most probably thought about your future in this field of study. Talk to your interviewer about how the subject has relevance in today’s world and the existing economy. Discuss the opportunities you see in this subject and how you can chart career with this subject in mind. If you display clarity about your future in the subject, the interviewer will lean towards a positive outcome.

Discuss opportunities that you have had to explore the subject

To show your passion for the subject, you can talk about the various experiences you had in exploring the subject. If you choose a subject on social welfare, you can talk about how you volunteered at local organizations where your knowledge about social welfare expanded and you got a real insight into the actual working of an organization that supports social welfare.

People who are truly passionate about a subject find it easy to discuss the ins and outs of it along with their reasons for choosing the subject. We wish you all the best for your college interview.
