Gun Control Pros and Cons in the USA

The incident of a mass shooting is a dark chapter in the history of the USA. In the year 1873, a group of US citizens in Louisiana killed around 150 African–Americans. In 1890 a group of US soldiers killed 200 women, men and children in a small village.

On 20th April 1999, two US citizens brought firearms in their school and killed 13 people before killing themselves. Just two years back in October 2017, a gunman opened fire with a semiautomatic weapon killing 58 and injuring 586 people.

Gun control is a topic of debate. Many people support it, while others are totally against it. This makes it essential to discuss the pros and cons of Gun Control in the USA.

Pros of Gun Control

All the guns used in the mass shooting were legally purchased

The idea of Gun Control is beneficial for the citizens of the USA because all those guns that were involved in mass shooting incidents were legally purchased and owned. This means by controlling guns, these type of events can be significantly reduced.

Homes with safely stored guns also increases the chances of a violent incident

According to a survey, the risk of homicide increases by 40% if there is a gun stored in a house. Suicides rates also increase to 90 times if there are weapons in a home.

The current legal owners of the arms won’t be affected

The idea of gun control means restricting access to such weapons when someone is tempted to do something violent. However, it doesn’t mean taking away guns from the hands of the legal owner.

Gun Control can reduce the chances of accidental injuries

Harming others or yourself unintentionally is quite common when you have easy access to a weapon. Gun control can also dramatically decreases such accidents.

Cons of Gun control

Guns are tools for people which ensures their safety

Controlling guns doesn’t mean it will stop all such mass killing activities. If someone has a mindset to harm others, he can use any tool for that. A few years back in a recent terrorist attack, more than 12 people were killed just by using a car as a tool. A mass stabbing incident in China resulted in the loss of life of 29 people.

Guns are a tool which people can use to protect themselves, and without access to guns, they will be more prone to such incidents.

Most of the Gun violence in the US involve suicides

No one can stop someone who wants to kill himself. If someone decides to take his life, controlling the guns, cannot stop it. There are tons of other tools which he can use to harm himself.

Guns Control do not deter crimes

Gun control increases the rate of crime in several states of the US. According to a survey, the country which has the highest number of gun owners has the lowest price of crimes.

The only violent action taking places in the state was suicide, which cannot be stopped by any means.

No doubt Gun control is a great way to stop chances of violent incidents, but it can also increase the chances of crimes.
