Express Entry: Ontario Issues Invitations for Immigrants From 10 Skilled Occupations

Ontario, a densely populated province in Canada, has released its invitations for Express Entry candidates for the year 2020. Express Entry is a streamlined system for the selection of skilled workers for immigration to Canada. Not a program, but a system through which Canada accepts applications and manages them for three distinct immigration programs.

Each focused on skilled workers: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). As well, many Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs) get aligned with Express Entry. The selected candidates get ranked against each other using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CSR).

Ontario issued its invitation for candidates for the current year recently on 13th February. The invitation was sent to 486 Express Entry to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), an immigration program for people who have a job offer in Ontario, extended its invitations. It is also known as Notifications of Interest (NOIs), to the eligible immigrants as skilled workers.

CSR for Express Entry

One must achieve a CSR score between 467 and 471 for qualifying the Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities (HCP) Stream. Comprehensive Ranking System is a system to test the candidate’s ability to adopt Canada. It is based on his profile information like his age, work experience, level of education.

Candidates scoring the highest are invited to apply for a permanent residence at the federal level to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Lately, in the recent draw, a total of 10 different National Occupation Classifications (NOCs) got targeted.

Work Experience in Listed Occupations

When selected, candidates who receive the NOI or in simpler terms, the invitation, have 45 days to submit the application. Those who fail to meet this deadline will not be considered for a provincial nomination.

It is not necessary that candidates must have a job offer to be invited. But this does not disregard the fact that they do need to have work experience in the following listed occupations:-

• Financial managers, NOC 0111
• Other administrative services managers, NOC 0114
• Advertising, marketing, and public relations managers, NOC 0124
• Corporate sales managers, NOC 0601
• Retail and wholesale trade managers, NOC 0621
• Managers in customer and personal services, n.e.c., NOC 0651
• Financial auditors and accountants, NOC 1111
• Other financial officers, NOC 1114
• Professional occupations in business management consulting, NOC 1122
• Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses, NOC 3012

Survey to Prioritize Occupations

“Through this dedicated approach, we’re helping to make it easier for businesses to recruit top talent from around the world,” notes the OINP webpage. OINP engaged itself with stakeholders face-to-face through a survey to help them choose their priority occupations for the draw. This exercise was practised in the entire province.

Another call for the benefit to the candidates is that if the candidate, invited in this draw, receive a provincial nomination from Ontario. An additional 600 points will be added to their total CSR score.
