Express Entry: Canada Government Invites 3,500 Candidates for Permanent Residence

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited 3,500 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence in Canada. This is 136th Express Entry draw which was held on February 5, 2020. As the numbers of the draws have increased when compared to the previous one, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score has also raised by a point to 472.

The Express Entry system organizes immigration applications for three main skilled labour immigration categories of Canada:

• Federal Skilled Worker Class
• Federal Skilled Trades Class
• Canadian Experience Class

The most surprising fact about this that despite the higher numbers of invitations issued, the cut off score has still risen in contrary to all previous. This draw shows that a lot of candidates with very high scores are entering the express entry pool. If this rank continuous, then it would be very difficult for candidates below 470 marks to secure an invitation.

Candidates rank in the Express Entry pool is depended on the score they get under the CRS. The CRS considers requirements such as applicants’ age, educational, skilled work experience and language skills either in English or French. The candidate is not required to have a job offer in order to be eligible under the Express Entry system, through the CRS does award additional points to candidates who have one.

A specified number of candidates with the highest rank are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency through regular draws from the pool. These rounds of invitation take place every two weeks, and the vast majority includes candidates from all three Express Entry-managed categories.

The target for the Canadian Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is set to increase to 67,800 in 2020 and 71,300 in 2021. Express Entry System, a part of Canada PNP also manages it, through its various draws of invitation. The nine Canadian provinces and two territories are known as “enhanced” PNP streams associated with the express entry system.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied a tie-break time and date of January 30, 2020, at 07:36:26 UTC in this draw.

Some of these streams which do not require low or even CRS scores allow participating provinces and territories to select Express Entry candidates and apply them for a provincial nomination for permanent residency in Canada. Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination earn 600 additional points toward their CRS score and are effectively guarantee the ITA.

All candidates with a score of 473 and above, as well as those with a score of 472 who submitted their profile to the Express Entry Pool before the date of the tie-break, will receive an invitation to apply to this draw.

With the latest draw, the total number of ITAs issued this year comes up to 10,300. The target for the new PR admissions for this year through the three Federal programs is expected to rise to 85,800 ITAs this year and 88,800 in the next year.
