Why Study in Taiwan?

Traditions of Higher Education in Country 

Every Taiwanese, starting from the poverty level to the millionaires, solely determines to achieve higher education. For this reason, the cost of attaining a degree in the ROC is comparatively much less than that of other countries.

According to the Times Higher Education Ranking in 2021, the top 23 universities in Taiwan that contain world-class technology are the best in the world are Taipei Medical University, National Tsing Hua University, China Medical University, National Yang-Ming University.

Other universities are National Cheng Kung University, National Chiao Tung University, Asia University Taiwan, Chang Gung University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Kaohsiung Medical University, National Central University, National Chengchi University, etc.

The most popular among all the universities in Taiwan is National Taiwan University. With eminent scholars as lecturers, stupendous job prospects, top-notch facilities, and programs, this university is the most chosen by international students.

Requirements

If you are an international student who wants to apply to a Taiwanese university, you must have a high school certificate permitting your eligibility to further your undergraduate degree.

The same goes for the master’s program. It would help if you had a valid bachelor’s degree to meet the requirement of the master’s degree. And in case you want to apply for Ph. D., you will require a master’s certificate from an authorized university.

Knowing Chinese if you want to study in Taiwan does not fall under mandatory requirements, though. Yes, you have the option to learn the native language of the state that will be your home for the next couple of years. But there is no such rule.

Visa

To get the visa for academic purposes, you have to choose between two classified visa types: visa (less than six months) and resident visa (more than six months). Other than these two, ROC does not have any other subcategories such as student visas.

The procedure for applying for a visa is the same as in any other country. You have to contact your nearest Taiwan embassy and gather details from there. There are more than 109 Taiwanese embassies in 73 countries.

In case there is no embassy in your country, then contact the nearest embassy available. If you have a visa in the resident category, you must have an Alien Resident Certificate, especially for international students.

Accommodation

When you have your visa ready, the college chose and other things planned out, it is time to accommodating yourself in the large country of ROC. In this category, you get two options to choose from as an international student.

The first one is on-campus accommodation, in which you will be given a place in the university’s dormitory. Though there is a privacy hindrance in the dormitory, it is undoubtedly the most convenient for the newly shifted international students.

The other one on the list is private housing. Though the expense of a private space is more, you will have your free will and secured privacy. Choose an accommodation that is near to your institution, or else it will become hectic for you.

Cost of Living

One of the main reasons students get attracted to Taiwan universities is its state-of-the-art facilities and academic environment at a very affordable price. Rest assure that studying in Taiwan will not cost you a fortune.

Besides paying tuition fees two times a year, food, accommodation, entertainment, and transportation rates are quite acceptable for any international student to bear. However, a better quality of living will cost you more.

The location you have chosen for your accommodation and the food you prefer to eat daily will determine your expense at the end of the month. As a student, we recommend you to fulfil just your essential requirement.
