Why Must International Students Avoid Binge Drinking When Study Abroad?

Moving from one environment to another that is entirely new is often challenging for the student. The study abroad students tend to compromise al lot of things when they arrive at their destination. Many struggles to cope up with the new culture and many try to fit in the new peers’ group.

One of the most challenging adaptations is drinking with friends. Alcohol consumption is widespread in many countries where college students are recorded to consume alcohol more than the standard threshold.

Binge drinking is what is called alcohol consumption in a particular period, i.e. drinking alcoholic beverages over a short period. The consumer is intoxicated by the heavy use of alcohol and tends to be out of control for an extended period.

The time constraint of a binge drinker is within two hours, but the college students are accustomed to cross this time when they drink. It is reported that 20% of the male students and 10% of female students consume twice the amount of what is measured by a binge drinker. They have extreme drinking habits or practices.

It may be reasonable for the natives, but it becomes difficult for international students to adjust to this drinking atmosphere when they have no one in the town to look after them. Anyone who drinks more than the threshold should avoid it to stay healthy and active. There are many consequences, and one has to face if he is in the category of binge drinking.

How to Resist Drinking in a Drinking-Friendly Environment?

One should avoid drinking at a pace of binge drinking. To do that, one can do the following:

1: AVOID PRE DRINKS: Avoiding the pre-drinks will make one consume lesser alcohol

2: EAT FIRST: This will aid in alcohol absorption and delay the Booz

3: DRINK WATER: It will keep one hydrated, and it will become easier for the absorption of alcohol.

4: STICK TO NON -ALCOHOLIC DRINKS: This is the sensible route before moving to the alcoholic drinks

5: LOOK FOR THE ALCOHOLIC CONTENTS: Lower alcohol content drinks will let one stay longer and remember it the next day too.

6: IGNORE: Many friends will drag to drink more. But if one ignores them, he/she is listening to his/her choices over someone else’s habits.

These habits may be difficult for one to adopt, but they are not impossible.

Why Should One Avoid Binge Drinking?

Binge drinking is when one drinks intending to get intoxicated to the maximum. It is not healthy for anyone, but particularly for college students, they are ruining their transition period with alcohol beverages.

1: Alcohol is Not the Solution:

Many students who come abroad to study find it difficult to mingle with the new environment. They find their escape in drinking to a level that they forget the worries. Fighting the difficult https://www.freestudy.com/center-for-alcohol-policy-essay-contest-2020/problem is the brave way of not drinking to forget the worries. One should be sane enough to realize alcohol worsens the situation, and the goals cannot be reached if one is a binge drinker.

2: Addiction:

One may start with the first time, and the last time only, but as drinking won’t solve the issues, it becomes a pattern and a fragile and unhealthy coping mechanism. Fulfilling g yourself every time by alcohol makes one addictive to it, and then it becomes difficult to quit the habit. The students should avoid this addiction as their goal is to study not to be an addict.

3: It is Fatal:

As international students are a minority of people, they should take care of themselves as there is no family to look after them. Alcohol is one of the leading causes of preventable death in America. One should avoid having fun or good time that would ultimately end up killing them or be dangerous to them.

4: Injurious to Health:

When one becomes a binge drinker, the immune, renal, cardiovascular, and nervous system, all of them are affected. Continuous drinking would lead to further damage to the vital organs.

5: Save Money for Studies:

If a student spends money on alcohol, it is useless. One should avoid spending money on something that is going to kill them. They should save money for studies, books or courses they want to take.

6: Healthier in Other Areas of Life:

If one stops binge drinking, they tend to be healthier in every walk of life. From professional to educational, everything becomes excellent and healthy.

7: Save More Time:

Drinking tends to make the person dizzy for the whole day or even weeks. Avoiding it will save more time to explore the new destination. One can also study in the free time to get good grades in the current semester.

8: Be Independent:

As a student being reliant on others is not healthy in any way. If you avoid drinking, the mood does not depreciate, and one tends to be happier and make the decisions that are wiser for them.

In every aspect, avoiding to drink is way healthier than drinking.
