The University of Waterloo Invites Foreign Students in Big Weekend Move

Education is a huge part of everyone’s life. One either stays to their native place or move to some other place that offers more opportunities. People move within countries or to other countries depending upon what they have planned. Shifting from one place to the other in the same country is kind of easy as compared to shifting cross country.

Shifting from one country to the other is scary. It not only changes the language and culture. But also, it is a different lifestyle that one has to adapt and adjust for a particular period. Most of the time, students shift from their native country to some other country because of the exposure that the other country offers.

This shift actually takes longer than one ever imagines. Just after landing in a different country, the first thing that one needs is to talk to their family and reach their destination. That might require a network, and for getting a network, one has to get a new sim card. The struggle to adjust begins from the airport itself.

Food, clothes, language, and what not changes, and it gets difficult to communicate, and it takes time for the students to adjust and adapt to the new changed lifestyle. There is no guarantee of the total time required to adjust, one might adjust in a few days, and others might take longer, that depends totally on the person.

The University of Waterloo has taken the initiative to call the freshmen before the orientation begins. The university has welcomed all the freshmen a weekend before the first year begins. By this opportunity, one can not only get time to adjust but also to get to know and become habitual in some sense to the new lifestyle.

There were a lot of problems that the freshmen faced in their first year – issues related to language, food, lifestyle. That had a huge part of the difficulty in adopting a new lifestyle that not only included adjustment with culture but new people, taste and environment. One can even give up on the college because of the stress of change. There are a lot of problems that the newly shifted ones faced.

To ease their journey of college, the university has called the students a weekend before the orientations so that they get to know new people and cultures and adjust accordingly. The university has come up with a student society that actually will work for the newly shifted students and help them adjust and know the country.

They have assigned volunteers to guide the new students to stores and explain to them the smallest of details, e.g., sim cards and plans. This is not only a friendly way to help the students but a smart way to help them adjust to the new life. The university has also made a shutter available to the students from the airport to the college campus. That has helped a lot of students.

All these small steps have actually solved a big issue for the new students. This not only helps the students to prepare well for the first year but helps them adjust quickly to a new place and a new lifestyle. All these help the students to focus on important things rather than stressing upon the adjustment. Overall it has been a good move for the students, by the university board of Waterloo.
