Malaysia Postponed Entry for International Students until Dec 31.

Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud from Immigration Department has announced that the entry of existing and new international students planning to study in Malaysia has been postponed until Dec 31.

He said the entry postponement also affect international students who had now received approval from the Immigration Department to come to Malaysia.

Khairul Dzaimee said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 4) that “The postponement is in line with the decision by the Higher Education Ministry to delay registration of students as well as physical classes in higher learning institutions”.

He also said the department is made to understand that the ministry had conferred with airline companies to permit international students to rearrange their air travel.

The Ministry of Higher Education said on Oct2, higher education institutions should make their registration process online for the new semester.

The ministry said it should also include all teaching and learning activities, in light of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases nation.

On Oct 7, Immigration Department announced that international varsity students who have already bought tickets to come back in Malaysia are allowed to enter up till Oct 8.

Malaysia: International Students Already Approved by Immigration Allowed Before Oct 8

According to a circular dated Oct 6 from the Immigration Department of Visa, Pass and Permit, the rule relaxation is for new and current overseas students in higher education institutions whose entry into the country has already been authorised.

The circular, sighted by The Star, was signed by department director Dr Syahmi @ Muhammad Syahmi Jaafar.

“Those who enter after Oct 8 will be subject to a ‘Not to Land’ action.

He said, “Foreign students in private and international schools are allowed to enter the country to continue their studies. They must apply for an entry approval with the Immigration Department first”.

International students learning in higher education institutions in Sabah and Sarawak would have to get acceptance from the state government authorities, he said.

Last week, Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud announced that international students scheduling to study in Malaysia would have to reschedule their travels until Dec 31.

He also said the temporary restriction would affect international students who had already received approval from the department to come to Malaysia.
