Japan Targets Highly-skilled Workers with PSW Support Boost

Japan has recently reported making it easier for international students to find more work opportunities in the country. Meanwhile, the Government of Japan seeks to attract new young talent, keep high-skilled overseas workers & boost productivity. That’s because its previous stakeholders warn policies are not fulfilling the demand for highly-skilled workers.

The main target of the government is highly-skilled technology professionals. Still, it will also take care of the shortage of workers in some other categories such as agriculture, transport, health care, and construction building.

Why is Japan having an increasing number of high skilled workers from other countries?

There are many reasons for increasing high skilled workers in Japan. Everyone aware of Japanese technology, they believe in the best and cutting edge technology and deliver one of the best products to the world.

For this purpose, they maintain high skilled work strength. That’s why they allow students, workers, and employees from all around the world.

Every year Japan has made some changes in it polices to fulfil the demand of high-skilled workers for the country to boost its productivity. Such as previously, the minimum period to apply for the permanent resident is five years.

After the changes, it will be three years for those scoring 70 points. One year for those scoring 80 points, foreign workers can apply for permanent residence.

The Government of Japan’s new policy to support international students in finding work is just a strategy to keep high-skilled overseas. This is to boost the Japanese economy.

Japan hit the long record of gaining international student’s work visas after graduation in 2018. It is now 25,942 from the previous year when it was 22,419. Here are some updated measures which made the environment for foreign human resources to find work efficiently:

The Government of Japan has maintained a policy of attracting high-skilled international talent. It has implemented various measures in line to increase productivity and overcome the population decline.

These measures include in 2000 as part of its basic IT strategy the main interest of attracting 30,000 IT high-skilled specialists by 2005. In 2012, instituting a point-based system for issuing visas to highly skilled international professionals was done according to various criteria requirements.

The requirements were such as educational attainment, age, and yearly earnings which is undoubtedly attractive to migrants. In 2015, establishing a specific visa category for high-skilled international professionals.

In 2018, under the government BPEFMR (Basic Policy on Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform) to allow blue-collar international talent,

• New policy to expand the scope for international students to obtain a new type of visa via some additional skills test.
• Government interference in companies management will clarify which international students are permitted to stay if there is a long gap in graduation & employment. International students will be urged to apply for some internship training course.
• The Government of Japan promotes the acceptance of international student’s work visas who study at highly-skilled specialized training college & Japanese language school.
• Government relaxation in a requirement to start a new business in Japan.
• As compared to the US or UK, Japan has a relatively simple process of converting student visas to a work permit visa.
