Is India to be Preferred Destination for International Students?

India is undoubtedly a rising economy in the world. Every year, a huge number of students from India go abroad in every corner of the world to acquire university education in the top universities. It not only brings a highly skilled human resource to India to support its growing economy but also helps India to gain recognition in developed countries as each student is an ambassador of their country. However, India has some of the top universities in the world, providing education to millions of Indians in various disciplines.

According to reports, there are roughly 48,000 international students studying in India higher education institutes. Expanding the capacity, India is striving to support more international students to pursue their education in Indian universities. Like all developed countries such as the USA, UK, China, Japan, and Australia, India is trying to promote its educational standards and competitiveness on a global scale with more enthusiasm.

But, is India ready to welcome more international students and keep up with the global educational standards? Can Indian higher education institutes grab sufficient attention of the international students like its IT industry has accomplished in past decades?

To start with, the critical factor that primarily attracts students to any foreign institution is the quality of education. With thousands of institutions in India, there are very few numbers of institutions that provide quality education according to the world’s higher education standards.

Although the top Indian universities, along with the others, are struggling hard to compete with other highly ranked universities in Asia, there are still many endeavours required to reach up to those standards. Furthermore, the student induction and assessment, industry-academia linkages, and improving the professional capabilities of the students are still far behind world standards.

India, full of diversity; various cultures, languages, and values, become an attractive destination. The Indian government is working hard to maintain and improve harmony to make it look safer for tourists and international students. However, there have been some reports of unfortunate incidents of violence against foreigners.

Such events, although very few, makes the situation look a little dangerous for foreigners in India and other potential international tourists and students. It is mandatory to safeguard the security and protection of international students who often undergo mental stress due to their studies, homesickness, and ambitions. They cannot further handle the pressure of protection of their life, health, and property.

Recently, India has taken the initiative of increasing the enrollment of the number of international students in their universities. The action is called Study in India, where the government is planning to invest 1500 Million Indian rupees. The private and public universities are enthusiastic about this initiative, and it is well-received by the general public.

Study in India is the reflection where India wants to take its educational system, and like all the developed nations, it will provide a cultural exchange opportunity for the rest of the world to know more about Indian education and the culture. With such serious efforts backed with careful planning and management, the issues highlighted earlier can be anticipated to be addressed adequately.
