How International Students Can Get Jobs at Best Companies in the USA?

Getting a job in some renowned U.S. company is the passion of every international student. Those who are looking for jobs, this is the right time for them to secure a place in one of the best U.S. companies. It sounds great. Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report about the latest jobs, which says that the U.S. economy announced hundreds of thousands of new jobs in October last year, and this is an indication that doors of opportunities are already open for international students.

Students from different parts of the world take admission in educational institutes of the United States every year. The opportunities arise for them as their visas allow them to work for a particular period. Nevertheless, job-hunting for international students is not easy as employers do not know much about cultural gaps and the overall requirements of the visa.

Following are the major aspects that the foreign students should keep in mind before and during job searching.

Start Quickly

To avoid any hassle, it is important for the students to start searching for jobs right after they complete their graduation. Even during the studies, if they keep an eye on various job openings, they will have a fair idea on the overall market situation; in this way, they will be able to prepare themselves for the future.

Discover the Best Opportunities for Yourself

The international students may think they have fewer opportunities as compared to that of the residents of the United States. The best way to counter this perception is to find the sector that best suits your interest. Ask yourself which job you can do better according to your interest, and keep looking for jobs. Also, keep grooming yourself in the area of your interest so that you could compete in the competitive market.

Develop a positive mindset

Positivity always leads to better results. Always develop a can-do attitude in yourself. Always look for the best opportunities with a positive frame of mind. Never think you cannot get a job in the highly competitive market of the United States. The confidence and positivity will not only assist you in securing a good job but also in sustaining your position in the organization.

Closely analyze the job description

During job-hunting, students come across various job advertisements. They should carefully read the job description as it would enable them to analyze if they possess the required skill set for the job. Reading job descriptions of the established organizations will give you an insight into the current market trends.

Location

For job searching, location matters to a great extent. New York, Texas, and California have earned the reputation of accommodating international workers as these states offer much high job opportunities to international students.

Some states facilitate organizations that have resources and information to hire international students. Therefore, you may consider it a viable option to try looking for work in those states instead of trying your luck in the countries that are not so accommodating.

Rules and Regulations

Keep checking rules and regulations that may impact your employment status within the U.S.; both during and after graduation. University rules may change for on-campus employment; so, you should keep track of all the policies regarding on-campus. Similarly, off-campus employments such as CPT and OPT have different regulations. To prepare yourself for employment, follow all the rules and regulations and feel confident while applying for the jobs.

Get Benefits from Your Institute’s Resources

The U.S. educational institutes offer career services, and they have significant experience in guiding international students to secure the jobs in the U.S. post-graduation. Get benefit from that experience, and make an appointment for the meeting with a career coach to share your particular goals and targets. Besides, attending career fairs and discussion with recruiters would serve your interest in developing relationships and getting an insight into the job market. Keep a follow up of those meetings for the potential interviews.

Internship

Starting with CPT (Curricular Training Practical) is always worthwhile for the students possessing F1visa. According to the requirements of CPT, the internship is related to the students’ majors, and they may also get academic credit for their internship.

Students need to look for the right set of job profiles according to the area of their specialization because as international students, they are required to undertake an internship in their majors. When students are aware of their eligibility for placement, all they need to do is to start looking for internship opportunities.

Networking

Networking is always useful in the job-seeking process. Almost 70% of the jobs are taken with the help of strong connections. International students need to benefit from their institute’s community; communicate with alumni groups that have already followed the due process of getting jobs after completing their graduations. You will be able to learn the procedure in light of their experiences.

Students may try to build their profiles on established portfolios such as Linkedin and start making your connections with experienced individuals. This will broaden your views about the job market, and you can understand the current dynamics.

Resume

Resume holds importance as it is your introduction to your potential employers. You should build your resume comprehensively detailing all the relevant information about your education, expertise and the areas of interests. Employers filter plenty of resumes, and that is why the applicants need to design their C.V.s in such a way that it gets the attention of employers in the first place.

Finally, international students should not get disappointed if they do not get jobs immediately after completing their graduation. The United States is a land of opportunities, and recently hundreds of thousands of jobs have been advertised; so, they need to keep applying for the vacancies with the positive mindset.

Meanwhile, keep grooming yourselves so that you could develop the right skills required for the job. In the current job market, job seekers have plenty of choices when it comes to making a decision regarding where to work. So, it’s all about hitting the right area with full confidence.
