How Can International Students Understand Other’s Point of View in Foreign Country?

Today when we have a glance over the globe, it seems to be very small, but it is surprising to know that there are roughly 6500 languages spoken across the world. Yes, this is not a small number. Now the thing to ponder about is that as we go across various countries, there is a huge variety of languages with numerous cultures, emotions and thoughts.

Psychologists say that the more we understand people’s perspective, the more our success rate grows. The puzzle comes up with the issue when international students interact with other ones with polarised ideas. If their thoughts do not agree on the same point, the interaction can get messy and tacky. The students are the pillars of our future, so they must be smart enough to understand other’s point of view and justify their views.

In this wide-world, we really need to get congregate with the perspectives or opinions of other people to build a healthy relation with them. Therefore, it becomes important to be precise, the way we convey our views, the way we understand people. Here are some skills which can help us to have a healthy interaction with a variety of people.

Create a neutral base to land for initiation

First of all, we should create a base of understanding and respect for other’s perspective, so that we may not initiate with contradiction. In this world, no person is wrong, it’s just that their perspectives are different. It takes huge efforts to cross the barrel of one’s own perspective and understand others. So be genuine enough to be neutral to compare both perspectives.

Don’t disapprove blindly

If we do not agree with a person’s point of view, we should not disapprove blindly, and it may hurt one’s self-respect. Instead, we should try to understand why the person has such views and respect his views.

Listen to other’s views carefully

We should listen carefully to what the person mentions to justify his point of view so that no one should feel offended or insulted (which can result in arguments). We need to understand and not just listen. If we show a positive attitude, it will help us to let a person leave one’s perception, and he will try to understand our view as well. After that, we can influence the person and get him on our track. Somehow, we both can coincide with the views.

Understand listeners

If we get the path to our destination, we can drive easily. In the same way, when we understand the listener’s approach, we can be tricky and convince him easily. We should always add powerful and real-life examples to our statements so that we can easily influence one.

Try to find the factor ‘why.’

We should always get to the reason why that person has such an opinion. If the facts and logics are misinterpreted, we can rectify them so that one can get to right facts. And if one’s facts are not wrong, we need to check our facts.

Speak up

No matter what the person support, we need to introduce our thoughts on the issue without any hesitation. We should not worry about disapproval and just speak up all we want in a positive manner. Not speaking can lead to nothing. Sometimes, many issues are resolved just by having words. So let others know what we think of, they may not know about our thoughts and facts. Surely, if we state the right thing in the right way at the right time, it will convince them.

Don’t stick to a point

While conveying the aspects, we should not stick to a single point. Repeating anything again and again as well as clarifying the same point by different ways can lead to loss of the listener’s interest. As a result of which, one may not respect our views. Don’t be personal, if the person does not seem to agree to the point, we should switch to the different point that can change his perception.

Don’t be judgmental

If the person sitting in front does not attain coinciding thoughts, we should not start judging that person based on his views. Everyone has different emotions, psychology, culture, etc and there might be some circumstances due to which one has developed such perception. We ought to respect one’s emotions and influence in a positive manner.

Observe the person while speaking

While speaking, we should always observe a person’s reactions and body language. The points at which one show interest or alertness can give us clues for the key by which we can manipulate or mould his thoughts. Without beating about the Bush, we should smartly approach to the points at which we found listener to be attentive.

Be genuine to accept if wrong

Not every person is Einstein. We are just human beings, and there can surely be some logics where we can go wrong. If we are wrong, we should be fair enough to accept it. In our society, most of the people are just engaged to prove their views without considering other’s logic. It is always appreciated to welcome other’s point of view. Therefore, we should be capable enough to see the coin’s other side as well.

How to get a conclusion

If we want to get a shell, we need to dive deep to get it. Similarly, if we want the conclusion, we need to reach the real facts and logic. We should always involve some examples in our statements and try to get a strong conclusion that can convince others.

Next time, when we will have a word with people from different country, culture and thoughts, we don’t need to argue because we have skills to discuss, influence and convince them to get to our opinion.
