Disadvantages of Studying MBBS in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a south Asian country. It is the eighth-most crowded country in the world, having a population of around 163 million individuals, residing in a total area of 147,570 square kilometers, making it perhaps the most densely populated country in the world.

Bangladesh shares its borders with India toward the west, north, and east, Myanmar toward the southeast, and the Bay of Bengal toward the south.

Studying MBBS in Bangladesh has been a prominent choice of the students mainly from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, etc because of the quality of education and fee structure of the medical universities of Bangladesh.

The quality of education offered by every one of the medical universities of Bangladesh is considered among the best academic example of medical education the whole way across the globe.

Many Indian students prefer studying in Bangladesh because of numerous reasons like similar culture, food habits, language, and people’s hospitality.

Why Not Study MBBS in Bangladesh

Medical education in Bangladesh is a five-year degree divided into four section examination assessments along with the one-year internship which includes clinical rotations, lab sessions where the students are taught to study diagnoses on real patients.

Medical Education in Bangladeshi universities has been separated into three particular stages which are: Pre-Clinical stages, Para-Clinical, and Clinical Phase.

It is no doubt that studying MBBS in Bangladesh is a good choice for students looking for a high quality of education at low costs but we cannot ignore the fact there are also some pitfalls of studying MBBS in Bangladesh and one has to know about them beforehand if he is planning to apply for Bangladesh.

Following are some of the disadvantages of studying in Bangladesh:

1. Infrastructure

The students coming all across the way from their home countries to study abroad in Bangladesh will have some expectations like good hostel facilities, campus infrastructure, hygiene, no ACs, etc. These are some of the basic preferences of a student.

In Bangladesh, you won’t have this kind of privilege since most of the colleges in Bangladesh have very poor infrastructure, poor toilet facilities, hostel facilities are not so good, and so on.

2. Private Colleges

In Bangladesh, it is quite challenging for foreign students to get admission to public universities, only private colleges accept the applications of private colleges where the fee structure is high as compared to state colleges.

Also, as mentioned above, the private colleges in Bangladesh offer very poor infrastructure and hostel facilities to the students.

Most of the colleges have rented buildings outside of the campus for providing hostels to the students. More than 10 students are staying in the same room sharing one to two toilets.

3. Language Barrier

Another concern of the students moving abroad to study is the language of that country. However, the universities use English as their medium of instruction but most of the staff and the students still communicate in Bangla which makes it difficult for the international students to interact with them.

Students living outside of campus would eventually have to interact with the people out there and most of the citizens of Bangladesh speaks Bangla as their local language and that is why students will find it hard to socialize in Bangladesh.

Also, at the time of training, the students won’t be able to easily communicate with the local patients as not being able to fluent in Bangla.

4. Lifestyle

When a student decides to study abroad he would want to experience and explore the new version of life but in Bangladesh, there is no such thing.

In Bangladesh, you will have no experience of parties, concerts, clubs, tourist attractions, nightlife, discos, etc. Here you will have very few opportunities to explore and live the best of your life.

In short, you won’t have much of a social life here.

5. Tuition fees

As already mentioned above, in Bangladesh international students are accepted by private medical colleges only. Which makes the tuition fees significantly high compared to the tuition fees at public universities.

In Bangladeshi medical universities, the initial payment asked the students is quite high as they ask for 30%-40% of the total tuition fees of the course as the first installment of their MBBS course.

Also, the private colleges in Bangladesh may increase tuition fees rates in the future according to the increase in market rates.

6. Study Gap

Many students these days take study gaps after they complete high school degrees to think over the future or sometimes preparing themselves for the future competency exams, etc. There can be many reasons for the study gaps and it is quite common among the students in today’s world.

But the in Bangladesh, there is a specific limit to it which is of 2 years, which means the students of more than 2 years of study gap after completing their high school won’t get admission to private colleges of Bangladesh for MBBS course.

7. Terrorism

Safety is another important concern for the students and their parents who are sending their children to study abroad.

In Bangladesh, there have been many instances of terrorism detected in the recent past which makes it the unsafest place to study for the students moving here alone.

Also, there are many other crimes too which are popular in Bangladesh, kidnapping, human trafficking, money laundering, robbery, corruption, black marketing, political violence, etc.

8. Overpopulation

As stated above that the country is the most crowded and the most densely populated in the world which can be proved quite congested for international students.

Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh is known as the most populated city of Bangladesh.

Also, here because of the overpopulation, you will find traffics on the road, crowds in the markets everywhere.

Conclusion

To sum up, studying MBBS in Canada is a whole different experience compared to the other study abroad destinations like Europe, China, Russia, etc.

In Bangladesh, students will have to compromise on so much like education, lifestyle, standard of life, language, fees, etc.

If one is ready to adjust in such circumstances then Bangladesh can be a preferred choice for you to study MBBS.
