COVID-19 International Support and Financial Assistance at RMIT University, Australia

RMIT University is one of the wealthiest and largest dual-sector education provider in Australia. Now, the University is expanding Hardship Assistance and Equity Scholarship funds to support students directly impacted by COVID-19.

RMIT’s Student Hardship Assistance and Equity Scholarship funds have been established to provide up to $10 million in support to students. The fund is open for both Australian and international students.

RMIT University

RMIT University is a public research university based in Melbourne, Australia. It has an enrolment of around 87,000 higher and vocational education students.

It is rated a five-star university by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and is ranked 17th in the World for art and design subjects in the QS World University Rankings.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this educational program, candidates are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Applications are open for international and domestic RMIT University and RMIT Training students.
  • Students enrolled in Higher Education coursework, Higher Degree by Research, Vocational Education, VCE and Foundation Studies programs who are struggling with the costs of living and accessing technologies required to study online.
  • Applications are not open to students studying through Open Universities Australia, RMIT Online, RMIT Vietnam or partner institutes.

Acceptable Course and Subject

The University offers these grants for studying any degree coursework in the following fields:

  • Art, design & architecture
  • Humanities & social sciences
  • Business
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Information technology
  • Law
  • Medicine, nursing & health sciences
  • Pharmacy & pharmaceutical sciences
  • Science

Benefits of the Programs

Students impacted by COVID-19 can now apply for two types of financial assistance from RMIT:

1. Emergency Financial Grant

To support students who are affected by job loss, housing insecurity or other financial matters associated with COVID-19. This is for non-tech expenses, such as essential living expenses, textbooks, accommodation, healthcare, or food.

2. Technology Grant

To help students access essential IT equipment to continue studying remotely, including hardware, software, subscriptions, data, internet and digital materials. The Technology Grant is limited to up to $1,000 per student.

How to Apply for the Scholarship

For applying to theses studentships, candidates are needed to follow this application procedure:

Step 1: Apply for Admission

For being admitted to this studentship, candidates are demanded to be registered as an RMIT University student. Candidates need to search for a program by the level of study. Students can apply for the program at the University through the given link.

Step 2: Apply for a scholarship

After taking confirmation, you access the secure Grant application form. For this, you need to sign in using your RMIT credentials. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Click ‘Apply now’ Sign in to Microsoft using your RMIT email address
  2. Sign in to RMIT using your RMIT email address and password

Step 3: Submit required documents

For your application to be considered, you must:

  • Submit a short statement outlining your circumstances, and
  • Provide all required documentation, including a current bank statement with transaction listings for February and March for all accounts – not screenshots, records from Spending Tracker, or images from internet banking or phones. The bank statement/s must display the balance and transactions for February and March, be in English language AND contain the account holder’s name/s.
  • You must submit all required documentation, as incomplete applications will not be assessed.

Documents for admission

  • Passport
  • Certified copies of academic transcripts (not required for current RMIT students applying to another RMIT program)
  • Certified copies of all graduation certificates in both the original language and English 
  • (not required for current RMIT students applying to another RMIT program)
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (not required for current RMIT students applying to another RMIT program)
  • Any documentation relating to selection tasks (pre-selection kits, folios etc.)
  • CV, work reference letter, referee report etc. if applicable

Entry Requirements

  • RMIT University admits students based on their demonstrated capacity to succeed and sets minimum entry requirements for each level of study.
  • Every RMIT program has its own specific set of entry requirements.     

Visa Requirements      

For studying in Australia, seekers are needed to obtain a student visa. It can take several weeks for your visa application to be processed, so it is essential to begin the visa application process as soon as you have received your offer from the University.
