Cost of Studying in Ireland

Ireland is an island in North Atlantic. It is divided into the Republic of Ireland which is the five-sixth of the island and Northern Ireland which is a part of the United Kingdom.

Cost of studying in Ireland

One having a degree of any of the irish university has a reputation and recgonized everywhere. A person with a degree from an Irish university can be work and make a successful career in any part of the world. Overall, studying in Ireland is worth considering.

Now, back to the cost of studying in Ireland. So the costs here are quite affordable even for the students from not-so-good financial backgrounds.

Be it tuition costs or the living expenses, the accommodation, food, etc prices of everything here are pretty much reasonable and low.

Tuition fees

The first concern regarding your costs of studying in Ireland will be the tuition fees at the university you are going to apply for. However, the tuition fees vary depending on the type of program and the institute you opt for.

Undergraduate degrees

In Ireland, the tuition fees for the students from Ireland, EU/EEA countries, Switzerland pursuing undergraduate degrees are free. They are funded by the higher education authority (HEA).

To get this free fee benefit, you have to apply for the government funding program and make sure that you are eligible for it.

You are not eligibile for this “free fees initiative” if you have already had the same degree you are pursuing and you are repeating your year of study.

There are other requirements to it which are proof of nationality, immigration status, residence, income proof, etc.

For international students, the tuition fees for the undergraduate degree is ranging between 10,000- 55,000 EUR per year.

Post gradute degrees

Also, for the postgraduate courses, there is nofree fee initiative, students must pay the tuition fees which will cost 3,000-30,000 EUR per year for the EU/EEA students and around 10,000-35,000 EUR per year for international students.

Also, the other contribution fees for the student’s services like examination entries, support for clubs and societies are for all the students (both citizens and non-citizens) which are around 3,000 EUR per year.

Accommodation costs

Many universities and institutes provide on-campus residence facilities to their students which is quite affordable for the students as compared to renting an aprtament for youself off-campus.

Living in an on-campus residence will cost you around 300-600 EUR per month and living off-campus by renting an apartment will cost you 400-900 EUR per month.

You can consider sharing your apartment with someone who will stay with you. It will help in lowering you burden of all the accommodation costs. This option will charge you 450-550 EUR per month.

Living expenses

Living expenses include all those expenses which are incurred while fulfilling your needs and necessities like food, books, gas, water, internet, travel expenses, etc.

These are some of the expenses which one cannot ignore so keep full track of all the expenses and spend according to your budget must be preferred.

Below are some of the expenses you should consider when creating your budget:

  1. Books and stationary 75-100 EUR per month
  2. Traveling 65-85 EUR per month
  3. Food 250- 350 EUR per month
  4. Clothes and footwear 200-300 EUR per month
  5. Miscellaneous expenses 30-50 EUR per month.

The average total costs of the living expenses that are expected to be incurred during your stay in Ireland range between 650-1,000 EUR per month.

Transportation

The most preferred option for traveling from one place to another by the students is getting a travel card for buses, trains, DART, etc which will help in reducing your costs up to 40%.

The monthly pass or a travel card along with the discounts will cost you around 50-55 EUR per month.

Other than that, your average cost of traveling in Ireland for the whole month by any mode of transportation will not be more than130 EUR per month.

Cost of student visa

Studying abroad asks for a study permit for every international student. So to study in Ireland, you will first have to secure a student visa and for that, you will have to pay application visa fees which can costs you 60 EUR.

Extra costs

Now, If you want to apply for health insurance so that also comes with its own costs that are around 500 – 800 EUR per year.

Also, students in Ireland are allowed to work for 20 hours a week during their academic sessions and full time during vacations but working part-time helps you with earning income and that income can be taxable. So make sure that you pay your taxes.

Scholarships to study in Ireland

There are numerous funding options available for the students studying in Ireland. Some of them are funded by the government and some by universities or other private organizations.

Many merits-based, need-based fully-funded scholarships are available for both domestic as well as international students.
