Immigration: Canada Accepted More than One Million New Immigrants Between 2020-2022

Canada has been a welcoming country to people of all religions and castes. They don’t discriminate and allow almost everyone who wants to come to Canada with some purpose. Canada is ranked number nine in the world by the United Nations in terms of quality of life.

There are some of the best educational institutes, Multinational companies, and healthcare institutions present in the country. The clean and safe environment with good exposure is just a bonus that you get when you visit the country. 

As of now, it is estimated that close to 200,000 people are living in Canada who does not have permanent resident status. All of these people are immigrants. But combine them with the people who came from outside and got the permanent resident status and now are adding to the economy of the country.

Vision Speech Laid out by the Immigration Minister

The Immigration Minister of Canada, Marco Mendicino, laid out his vision of Canada. The recent speech that he gave was the first speech after his appointment as the minister.

He was last seen in 2019 during his meeting. He is currently building a structure where more and more immigrants can come to Canada and add to its economy as well as enjoy the perks of living in the country. 

It is a pervasive thing for the Immigration Minister of Canada to deliver a speech about the vision of Canada. These vision speeches outline the goals of the government and its policies. Marco Mendicino gave a speech no differently. 

Canada’s Future Depends on Immigration

In his speech, Marco said that Canada’s future depends on the number of immigrants that are going to grow with time. It is still a critical job to determine just how many immigrants should be allowed in the country to reach economic prosperity.

Excess of people in the country would mean that there would be more people and fewer resources. That can potentially lead to a lot of locals left unemployed, which the Canadian government is wary of. 

Marco pointed out that Canada requires more immigrants to step in its borders because the birth rate of the country is dipping. With time, Canada has aged fine, and right now, it requires more workforce to grow sustainably.

So to maintain the size and population of the country, Canada must allow more people to come and contribute from outside. 

The current problem is growing due to the low birth rate.

Since the birth rate of the country is lowering with every year, the expenses for the government are increasing. This is because the healthcare expenses and medical expenses of the old age citizens are a lot. And they don’t even add to the economy anymore.

The young people who do add to the economy are too less in numbers to make a difference. This has put the Canadian government into a lot of pressure for upgrading their policies to build a better economy. The costs of elderly citizens are going to rise with time since more people are bound to retire in the coming five years.

Mendicino has predicted that around 80% of the population growth of Canada will come from immigrants. There is a population goal that the Canadian government believes they will reach by the year 2030. 

Over a Million People Welcomed

The Canadian government has planned that it will allow approximately one million people inside its borders in the next three years. Mendicino said that he will officially roll out this plan from March 2020 and will run it till 2022.

The express entry, which was launched back in 2015, will remain the flagship program for letting people inside the country. According to stats, 95% of people who came through express entry have a full-time job. Around 80% of people amongst them are working in the fields of Canada, meaning directly helping the country to grow. 

Entry Programs to Boost Immigrants’ Participation

There are a lot of immigrant programs still running, which will allow and motivate people to come to Canada. A few programs such as Atlantic Immigration Pilot and Global talent Stream have been beneficial in helping the population of Canada grow.

Still, there need to be more efforts and better programs from the Canadian government to reach its goal of adding one million people in the next three years. 

But this plan of the government explains why Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot was launched in 2019. Yet another initiative is the Municipal Nominee Program. The federal government is going to start this program so that they can pursue its goal of adding more people to the country.

Mendicino appealed to the people of Canada that in the long run, this immigration program will be a net positive for the country. He concluded his speech by quoting that the foundation of Canada is built on its strength of Immigration. Letting more immigrants in the country will only add to the economy and won’t take anything away from it.

Perks to the One Million People Stepping in the Canadian Land

There will be a lot of perks to people who come to Canada as immigrants. It is one of the best places to live in. In efforts to bringing one million people on Canadian soil, Mendicino has said in an interview that the standards of living which are already good will increase even further.

The medical benefits are to be increased with time as well. For people who can get the status of the permanent citizen in Canada will be allowed necessary medical help free of cost. 

Since the country is on the verge of the rise and there is a huge demand for young people, it automatically means that there will be better job opportunities. At the same time, there will be better opportunities for business owners to employ people.  

The Dropping Immigration Rate

One of the many reasons why this plan is going to be brought into action is because the immigration rate has dropped. Since the inception of the 20th century, Canada saw a lot of people moving into its land to secure better job opportunities, healthcare facilities, and standard of living. But as of today, the rate at which people used to immigrate to the country has dropped significantly.

The reason behind why the immigration rate has dropped in the last 25 years is because of the rise of the same opportunities at a lower cost in other developing nations. Almost every country is striving to get better standards of living. And since globalization has happened, the free flow of technology has made it possible for every country to grow.

Now Canada has a lot of alternatives. Yet if the Canadian government makes it a more relaxed affair to get a visa for the country for the long term, it will be able to attract a lot of people. One more reason is that the per capita income has decreased.

Given that the standard of living there is good and comes at a reasonably high price, people would be demotivated to leave their country for less money.
