Why Must International Students Avoid Thrill Seeking Abroad?

You are here: Home / Blog / Why Must International Students Avoid Thrill Seeking Abroad?

October 12, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

It is usual for students to desire new and stressful experiences. They are ready to explore their limits and capabilities and may cross the boundaries that were set by their guardians. This urge to go for activities that involve physical risks is called thrill-seeking.

Many students who go to different countries around the world for studies end up enjoying their lives by the risky activities they and their peers love to experience. They sometimes decide potentially dangerous things just to fit in the peer group or even because of peer pressure.

Who is Thrill-Seeker?

Thrill seeker is a phrase that is used to describe the people who love intense and thrilling experiences or activities. It generates the adrenaline rush, which is why they are also called an adrenaline junkie. The other usual terms for thrill seeker you would hear are adventurers or sensation seekers.

They are the type of people who enjoy extreme sports or risky lines of work. In the times of fight or flight, adrenaline is introduced in the body that causes the heart and breathing rate to increase. The increased rate of blood pressure sharpens the senses and energizes the person. This sensation is what is loved by some people hence the name thrill-seekers.

Are You One of Them?

There is no test to determine that one is a thrill-seeker, but the personality traits can determine if one is sensation-seeker or not.

If one has a type T personality, that means he has the desire to encounter the experiences that triggers the excitement and sensations in oneself. They tend to stimulate thrill-seeking to the extent that it becomes risky for them.

The traits of such personality are:

1: Openness to change or flexibility

2: A wish for complexity

3: A desire for novelty

4: Curiosity

5: Impulsivity

6: A spur to pursue challenges

7: Creativity to the extent that is not normal

This personality existence allows the person to draw towards the activities such as roller coasters, adventurous hobbies like shark diving, and extreme sports.

Why Avoid Thrill-Seeking?

Thrill-seeking is sometimes threatening, but the person does not realize until he gets into a complicated situation.

One should avoid thrill-seeking when he is an international student. Meaning he is a minority of the people, and there is no one to look after you. When you know your parents back in your country are worried about you all the time, you should be responsible and avoid these activities to stay safe. Not only this, there are many reasons one should avoid risk-taking or thrill-seeking.

1. It is Dangerous:

Thrill-seeking if it is in limits, then it is entirely ok. But often the thrill-seeking is the excitement that involves physical risk to the being.one should avoid risking their lives to trigger the sensation that lasts for a few minutes only.

2. You Can Be Addictive To It:

The drive to experience the adrenaline rush is the same drive one gets when he is a drug or alcohol addict. This drive, when often is stimulated it, brings the relaxation that one tends to experience it again and again. This causes the person to be addicted to it. It can put the students at risk all the time, and one may miss the purpose for which they came abroad that is studying.

3. You May Ignore the Common Sense:

The peers or the internet is full of praising the thrill-seekers. To get the praise and the tag of a risk-taker and get attention, one tends to forget what is right or wrong for them. So if you become a thrill-seeker, you may forget what is common sense and opt for activities that are fetal for you.

4. One Does Not Weigh The Risks:

A fool will always expose his foolishness. The thrill-seekers do not realize this. You should always look for the potential risks you are putting your life into before opting for the exciting activities.

5. Relax Yourself and Your Family:

One comes overseas to risk their lives. No, the reason one is away from his family and friends is that they want to achieve the goals of a life-a successful life. You should always put yourself on a safer side to aim for your life and relax your parents and loved ones back at home.

6. It Can Ruin Your Career or Studies:

The risks one takes while seeking thrill can result in lifelong disabilities. It can put damage to your body that is not repairable, and you will lose all your goals in just one-minute sensations you wanted.

Stay safe and complete the goal for which you came so far. Being part of activities is never wrong, but try to measure the risks it involves and then step ahead.
