With an increased focus of governments on health care, the demand for medical professionals has shot up in recent years. The market requires professionals with expertise in health policy and economics.
The combination of these skills makes a medical student adaptive to constantly changing health care policies around the world. A new program has been started to meet both these requirements together.
The London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy announced a new course in October 2017. The course is named double executive program. It is set to be started in November this year.
LSE-Chicago double executive program is a modular degree course. The modules are prepared to teach policy processes, global healthcare conditions, technological advances in research and dynamic movements of the healthcare sector with micro and macro changes in economics.
They cover subjects like Global Health Policy, Paying for Health Care, Economics of Pharmaceutical Sector and Health Policy Research Methods. Students will also need to deliver a capstone project during the course duration.
The course combines the economic expertise of LSE and the political expertise of the Chicago Harris School. They design the course for working professionals who already have some solid experience in the medical field. This experience is mixed with real-world practical knowledge and helps the students be successful leaders in their fields.

Upon completion of the course, students receive the following degrees:
- MSc in Health Economics and Policy accredited by LSE
- MA in Public Policy (with a certificate in Health Policy) accredited by the University of Chicago.
Students have an opportunity to have executive degrees from two different cities simultaneously. Chicago and London are the cities with thriving medical sectors.
A learning experience in these cities along with other professionals from different places of the world is one of the best exposures you will receive. The program helps in developing strong medical networks that are just as useful as the lessons you receive in the classrooms.
The course duration is set for two years. Despite being a double executive program, students will have enough time to continue their full-time jobs. One can enrol in this program while living and working in any corner of the world. This is possible due to limited face-to-face classes in the course.
There are two-three week classes held every year in London and Chicago each. London classes are arranged in fall and Chicago classes in spring. The institutes accept applications from all over the world, and the course is ideal for international students, as they spend most of their time in their native country.
The admission requirements include an accredited bachelor degree in a relevant academic subject. Work experience in the healthcare field is necessary, whether in the industry or an NGO. Notably, the course does not require GRE or GMAT scores at all.
The new course has opened new scopes of expansion for other universities too. With the availability of these courses, the skill levels of professionals all around the world will go up significantly. This double executive program can be a big development in the field of medical education.
