Walgreens Careers - How to Get a Job at Walgreens

September 22, 2020 //  by Amit Kumar

Although mainly known as a drug retailer, Walgreens provides its customers with everything, from over the counter drugs, to snacks and more.  Walgreens is the go-to option for those who are sick and need to fill their prescription quickly or want some help with over the counter drugs.

Generally, as a Walgreens employee, you will need to interact with people a lot. While this is true for any retail shop, at Walgreens, you are more likely to encounter sick, injured, or unwell people who may ask you for advice regarding medicines and other aids. Therefore, it would be best if you are helpful and have some basic knowledge regarding common ailments.

How to Apply to Walgreens?

Applying to Walgreens is extremely easy. While you can use in-store, it is much more preferable to submit an online application on the Walgreens website; hence, you will not need to travel to fill out an application.

  • Minimum Age Requirement: At the basic level, you need to be at least 16 years of age to work at Walgreens. But, in some cases, you may need to show a high school diploma or GED to qualify for the position.
  • Working Hours: While some Walgreens operates from 7 AM to 9 PM, others are 24-hour stores. Hence if you get a position at a 24-hour location, you may need to fill a night-shift.

Applying on the Walgreens Website

When applying to Walgreens, you will need to visit the Walgreens Career website. It can be tricky to find this website since there is no direct to this website from the official Walgreens website. Instead, you will either need to search “Walgreen Jobs” on Google or search “Jobs on the Walgreens website, then take you to the correct site.

Once you are on the Walgreens Career page, go to the top of the page and select the “Career Areas” option, and then you can choose the “In-store” job options. Once you do so, you will be able to view a list of available jobs and the store locations. The website also provides an overview of the position, making it easier for you to understand which tasks you will need to perform.

While you can search for different jobs at different locations without creating an account, once you want to apply for the desired position, you will need to create an account with them. If you are using a public computer, please ensure that you do not save any data while creating an account. Walgreens uses your Social Security number as the login ID; hence you should ensure that you delete any protected information on the browser once you have completed filling in the application.

Some Tips for Your Application

When applying on the website? Do not stick to one position; try to apply to more than one post to increase your chances of being hired by Walgreens. Even if you do not find a position not to be the best, see that you will fulfil the criteria, ensure that you apply for it.

When you reach the assessment section, do not feel intimidated. An assessment section is mandatory for such positions; all you need to do it fill it out as honestly.

When you create an account to apply to Walgreens, it is easy to follow up on your application. After you have submitted your applications, you can log back into your account and view the status of your application. Additionally, you can also save an incomplete application and finish them at a later time.

If you have applied in person, then the only options that you have to follow up are to call the store and speak to the manager or visit the store. However, this may not always be a good thing as the manager may feel the pressure.

Hence, it is always advisable to fill out the application on the website. The process is a lot smoother and convenient as you can not only fill out the application at leisure but also check the status frequently.

Walgreens ensures that their stores always look clean, hygienic, and organized. Hence this extends to the employees as well. To show that you are the right fit for the store, ensure that you are dressed neatly and look presentable. This will help show them that you care about your appearance as much as they do. You can also enquire about the proper dress code, and ask whether or not you can wear nice jeans or comfortable pants.

Walgreens also values team players. Since you will be working at a store location, you will be working with other employees. Hence you must be able to get along with others, communicate well, and are willing to adjust with your co-workers. Treating people nicely is essential because you will be dealing with a lot of customers in a day, and this courtesy should also extend to your fellow employees.

If you are able, then during the interview, highlight instances in your life (whether it was your professional life or personal life) where you solve problems and come up with a quick and easy solution. Walgreens values employees who can think quickly on their feet and come up with easy solutions to problems. This problem-solving ability also highlights your ability to deal with “difficult” customers.

Most former employees rate working at Walgreens pretty highly, and hence, you will enjoy working for them. However, if you are not too fond of physical labor, then ensure that you only apply for positions such as Shop Associates, which does not involve moving or shelving items. Employees also appreciate the employee discount hat they receive on Walgreens products, as these also include medication, which can often come in quite handy. Working at Walgreens, overall, seems to be enjoyable for people as the store usually has a calm atmosphere. Hence, people can work at their own pace and not feel rushed.
