Victorian State School Wondered by the Limit on International Student Enrolment

Victorian State School Wondered by the Limit on International Student Enrolment

May 3, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

The number of international students in school education is increased to double volume. In 1994, the number of students was 13000. In 2018, this is increased to 26,801 students according to a recent estimation by the Federal Department of Education and Training data.

A freeze on international student enrolments shocked State’s schools of Victoria. Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals (VASSP) said that as the State develops surprisingly close to its cap.

A news channel was told by State Education Minister James Merlino that there was no cut to numbers but a group of 5,750 international students over the state primary and secondary schools was near to being capped for the year.

Finally, Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) set a limit. This limit cannot be surpassed by anyone without collaboration with the state and the federal government to increase the limit.

With good intention, principals of schools were going themselves or sending the coordinators of international students on the trip of the overseas department for recruitment. This was happening at the end of March. They went on a trip to China and Vietnam for the purpose of recruitment of international students.

Victoria was on the way to stay under the discussed limit but in 2019 they saw surprisingly a huge number of applications, some predictions showed this fact at the start of the year. It could be seen that the enrolment limit defined by the State was exceeding.

Analysts of the town were saying that this one decision put all of us in a surprising situation. Now, the administration of departments needs to improve their methods of work, how they collect information, how they take the decision and also how they are going to communicate with schools.

The Students Who Have Another Choice:

A number of 300 and more schools have participated in the International Student Program in Victoria. According to International School Program, families who send their child to a public primary school, are paying up to 10,000$ for a year. They used to pay for a public high school around 15,000$ for a year.

Meredith Peace who is the Australian Education Union’s Victorian branch president said that the verdict would deliver difficulty for schools to plan efficiently.

Principal at Bendigo Senior Secondary College Dale Pearce said that his school had to hit back two Chinese students who applied to register later this year, despite having the capacity.

Mr. Pearce discussed with a news channel that it’s a little bit difficult for the families to agree why their children would not be admitted after the recruitment process. The more he said that they can handle the school’s budget and manage it but secured connections in the city of Fuzhou can be affected.

James Merlino who is the Education Minister said that limit was set to proof the standard and quality of our schools and the developing strength of Victoria’s students abroad and also said that he had asked important directions on how to secure more students could be enrolled in 2020.
