UK Visa Rejection Takes Turkish Students Away from Britain

You are here: Home / Immigration / UK Visa Rejection Takes Turkish Students Away from Britain

August 14, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

Education agencies operating in Turkey are reporting difficulties obtaining UK visas for their international students who are seeking to get higher education in the country and are blaming consulates at turkey due to this issue.

Many agencies have reported that students are now changing their minds because of this issue and have canceled their study plans for the UK.

Apart from that, it hasn’t affected the majority of students present in Turkey, according to the managing director of AltasMesud Yilmaz. He argued that visa officers are rejecting visas of students who belong from Turkey due to the reason that they can’t afford to study in the UK.

He later added that it is not about the UK being more selective with the visas, but it is more of a decision making process issue.

He also said that they could predict the probability of students getting a visa, but in this case, it has become unpredictable since many high profile visa applications are being rejected. It has become very difficult to explain to these students why their applications are being rejected.

The Association of International Education Counselors are in touch with the consulate to resolve this issue, and there is some positive progress regarding this issue but many students missed this year too which is not very efficient for their careers.

Altas reapplied for the rejected visas, but saw no success as students themselves are turning away from the UK, and they are looking forward to other opportunities for higher education in other countries.

Turkish agencies also contacted the British Consulate General in Istanbul to create a solution for this problem. In the letter, they requested the British Consulate General to revise their visa system for international students after four weeks of surprise visa refusals.

A large number of visa applications belonging to high school students, university students, newly graduated students from reputable universities and young professionals such as lawyers, engineers, and even business people have been rejected.

There is no solid reason provided by officers other than financial for the rejection of visas. Local agencies are standing clueless why so many applications are being rejected.

According to the director of business, Zeynep GöleBenli at Karya İnternational said many students are affected by this issue, many of these students are re-applying for a visa to study in the UK.

Many students wait so long to get their visa, till their school starts and most of them have to cancel their visa application. She later added that if a student wants to cancel their visa application, they try to convince them to change destination rather than repeating the whole process.

Students end up wasting their time and fees after their application gets rejected for some unjust reason.

Many people believe that it is due to some hidden political agenda to block citizens coming from Turkey to the United Kingdom, until the end of Ankara agreement and that is expected to be canceled in October 2019 as a part of the Brexit process.
