The UBC Global Lounge is sponsoring the International
World’s Challenge that encourages young talents from different disciplines to
come together to discuss on a global issue. Its primary purpose is to offering
solutions to implement in partnership with communities.
Candidates who are interested in the topics related to
international issues and how these issues can play a part in sparking social
change, for them, this is a great chance to participate in the challenge.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for, the candidates must follow the given
criteria:
- Your team must be made up of two to three
individuals.
- Teams are encouraged to bring together
individuals from diverse backgrounds or areas of study.
Participants Requirement
- Student teams submit a brief application with a
synopsis of their chosen issue or problem, and how they propose to address it.
- Once all applications are reviewed to ensure
they meet entry qualifications, students will prepare a 5-7 minute presentation
to sell their solution. The first round of presentations selects semi-finalist
teams who will move on to the final presentation round.
- Although references do not need to be presented,
they are required to be listed in the presentations’ final slide.
- When preparing for the presentation, teams
should consider the following requirements:
Clearly identify the global issue being addressed. We encourage student teams
to consider the Global Goals* as part of their presentation. - Reflect upon the role that members’ home country
or Western countries may have in the existence and/or perpetuation of the
global issue.
- Reflect upon the role that we, as individuals
and local communities, play in the existence and/or perpetuation of the global
issue.
- Present an idea to help address the global
issue, using logical and convincing arguments, and including the way, local and
global communities can collaborate to develop joint solutions.
- Solutions should include realistic plans for
implementation, with some consideration for budget, logistics and possible
partners.
- Provide as many statistics and supporting
research as possible to both the World’s Challenge and the proposed solution.
- Polish presentations to make them organized,
visual and engaging.
- Ensure
that presentations meet any technical guidelines of internal competitions.
Technical requirements for the Global Final will be provided to all finalists.
Application Process
- The
registration form must include prescribed information about each team member
and address the following questions:
- What
global challenge will your team address?
- In
approximately 300 words, describe the global challenge and explain why your
team is interested in it and why it is important to resolve it; and
- In
approximately 400 to 800 words, provide a brief outline of your team’s unique
solution to address the chosen global challenge.
- Each
completed registration form must be submitted online to UBC.
Benefits
- 1st place:
Each winning member will receive $2000 and a trip to Western
University in London Ontario to compete in the finals. - 2nd place:
$1000 for each
winner
