Tips on How to Concentrate on Your Study

You are here: Home / Career / Tips on How to Concentrate on Your Study

October 1, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

Struggling to concentrate on your studies? You may be shocked to know that the learning habits that you normally used earlier are not aiding you as well as you had anticipated. Several types of research show that last-minute studying, memorising small chunks of information are all shortcuts that are not actually helping you for long term learning.

You don’t have to spend hours focused on a subject to learn it. Instead, using the right techniques will help you concentrate on your study and prompt you to learn quickly. Here are some good practices on how to concentrate on your study.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Set aside the technology
  • 2. An organized and quiet study zone
  • 3. Create a productive schedule to study
  • 4. Take breaks
  • 5. Never put off till tomorrow what can be done today
  • 6. Music may not always be a way of relaxing

1. Set aside the technology

All of us are addicted to social networks. Our phones are frequented by WhatsApp messages, Facebook updates, tweets, Instagram notifications, Snap chats and many more. Checking your mobile for notifications every couple of minutes will make it impossible for you to concentrate. Leave your phone in a different room, so you are not tempted to check it frequently. You can always reply back to messages later once your studies are complete.

2. An organized and quiet study zone

Keep your place of study neat and clean. Create a good environment for you because it influences your ability to concentrate on studies. Also, ensure that the zone is free of noises or anything that could distract you.

3. Create a productive schedule to study

Sacrificing your time of rest to study is not the best way to learn. Drinking cups of caffeine to shake off the sleep is also not a healthy way to study. Get your 8 hours of sleep, so your brain and body are strong enough to focus on studies. Create a schedule of study that best suits you – some may like it in the morning, the others noon or some at night. However, always get proper rest and then study.

4. Take breaks

Excessive hours of study will have a negative impact on your concentration. It is natural that your mind will wander after sometime when you force yourself on the study table. Thus it is best that you take breaks in between. Give yourself a break after every 2 hours. If it suits you, then go ahead and take a break after 1 hour. Even a 15 minutes break can freshen up your mind and help you concentrate on your studies better.

5. Never put off till tomorrow what can be done today

Studying a night before your exams are unproductive. Studying under stress and pressure just hampers your concentration. Make a schedule much before your examinations begin and give time accordingly. Learning without stress helps you concentrate on studies better.

6. Music may not always be a way of relaxing

Most students put on earphones while studying. They try to study with music running in the background. Whilst music is definitely a great way to relax one’s mind, it doesn’t help you concentrate on your studies. Listen to music once in a while for motivation but avoid listening to it continuously when you are studying.

Follow these small yet effective tips as they are quite handy in helping you concentrate on your studies.
