The Patton College of Education hosts a Munch and Learn Series, including panel discussions each semester to analyze social issues influencing education. The series strives to form a more unbiased and comprehensive community, both at Ohio University and in society.
The Patton College of Education is presenting the fourth and conclusive panel discussion in its Munch and Learn Series that is Global Issues on Immigration: Mobilizing to Advocate for and Build Inclusive Communities.
The discussion on Honoring and Supporting the Experiences of Immigrant Populations in University and Community Life Part II will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The mission of the Munch and Learn series is to allow the world of Ohio University and beyond to understand straight from representatives of as many members of our diverse community as possible.
This session will provide a lively discussion of this frequently significant issue, including acquaintance we can take away to improve immigration challenges on university campuses and communities.
The panel includes Salome Aluso, a doctoral student in Higher Education, and Gerry Krzic, head of Ohio Program of Intensive English, OHIO Office of International Training and Development and, Diane Cahill, chief of international services and operations, International Student and Faculty Services.
The student panellists will share their experiences as overseas students enrolling at a US institution of higher learning. The arbitrator of the discussion is Dr Greg Kessler, a professor in educational studies.
The staff panelists will contribute data on services available to assist international students as they adjust to their study at Ohio University, perceptions they have learned during their work with international students.
The virtual Microsoft Teams panel will concentrate on the academic and non-academic experiences of international students. Panelists will share experiences and plans for improving student progress and community engagement among global groups. They will share several theoretical frameworks and, immigrant-focused research will be discussed, as well as relevant types of research design.
