Work In Sweden Allowed for 1 Year After Your Study

You are here: Home / News / Work In Sweden Allowed for 1 Year After Your Study

December 9, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

Now you may consider Sweden as one of the top priority for studying abroad. With its highest quality education in Europe, you’ll have the opportunity to stay and work in Sweden.

International students and researchers in Sweden can stay there legally for a year after their graduation to search for jobs. This law shall be enforced from 1st January 2020.

The present rules are now permitting students who want to stay in Sweden after the commencement of their course to apply for a residential permit for up to six months. However, they need to fulfil specific criteria to do so.

The Sweden government has approved the new rules for international students residence. Now, the students can stay up to a year if they want to search for jobs or set up their own business there.

The international students need to have a completed course of a minimum of two terms in Sweden. Moreover, they should be highly qualified, financially independent people who possess skills according to the demands of the labour market.

Earlier, the students were only allowed one-year residential permits. Now, the students can apply for two-year residence permits. They shall be able to stay if they possess the residence permit for pursuing studies in other EU states.

The present requirement is that the students should have enough money to be able to fund their stay in Sweden shall also be modified. The new permits shall accept the students who have the proof of their means of financial support or the evidence of funding that they receive in the form of grants and scholarships.

The loosening of the funding requirement shall ensure that more students can have enough financial support to stay and study in Sweden. It is done to simplify the temporary movement between different EU countries.

In 2020, the individuals who already own the permission for study or residence in a different EU state can stay and complete a part of their research or studies in Sweden.

Thus, international students shall reap the benefits of companies getting involved and offering scholarships to them. There shall be plenty of scholarship options for international students, and the process shall be more flexible; thus, acquiring them would be more comfortable. The Swedish government is doing this to attract more international students to pursue their studies and learn skills that contribute to the economic development of the country.

Moreover, this welcome change in the permit shall provide an opportunity for more international students to stay and search for jobs. Thus, it will enable them to cover up their educational costs as well as earn a livelihood by procuring a job.

It shall also aid them to have sufficient time for entrepreneurship and implementing their startup ideas after they have graduated. Since acquiring funds requires a lot of time, this extension in the permit can be viewed as a favourable step that will help them to raise sufficient funds so that their business thrives and starts giving them profits.

Studying and working in Sweden can be a wise decision for goal-oriented international students since Sweden is providing a conducive environment for them to put their employability skills into their best use.
