SAT Score May Become Optional for International Students

You are here: Home / Blog / SAT Score May Become Optional for International Students

July 24, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

Several International Universities and the colleges have made SAT or ACT optional for International Students.

There are many reasons for that, but students applying in universities abroad must have adequate marks in English proficiency tests (IELTS and TOEFL) which are treated as important factors in the admission process.

There are few common reasons to make SAT and ACT optional range from filtering out students to verifying their credentials. It is very important to verify the credentials of international students, as a lot of them can fake degrees easily or they don’t have enough knowledge base to complete the degree program they are applying in.

Admission Policies differ from one University to another

1.    Dickinson College:

The test is optional for locals. But it is required by all international applicants. On the other hand, colleges analyze each case individually and may require an additional skype interview for some additional information.

2.    Bucknell College:

The dean of admissions made it clear for all international students to submit SAT or ACT scores. As this information is used to verify the credentials of the international applicant.

3.    University of Denver:

This University has some flexible policies since they understand each international student has studied under different education system. So, taking the SAT will not affect much.

4.    Marquette University:

This University has also set SAT or ACT optional for the international students for almost two years, and it has achieved that due to the extensive investigation done by the University’s administration in accessing each student’s credentials.

Due to the overwhelming demand for seats in courses, Universities tend to spend time on accessing each candidate from within the context.

Tips to achieve better results in the SAT:

To get better results always start to prepare earlier conduct your research properly and remember these points for better results.

1.    Identify the mistakes you make very often.

2.    Save your time by skimming the information.

3.    Quickly attempt easier questions.

4.    Build stamina by practicing the test.

5.    Get professional help from a tutor.

Remember these tips, and you will be able to achieve good marks in your test.

Measuring a Student’s Intellectual Ability:

It is proved from the report presented by the College board involving 171 institutions that SAT is an effective measure to evaluate the intellectual performance of each student when combined with the marks of high school. So, you better get prepared for the SAT exam.

Some colleges are making test-optional just to get more profits from international students, and this is creating some level of unequal distribution among international students. As some deserving students are unable to pay the dues and they don’t get admission in the University.

Recent studies have shown the fact that the financial status of the parents is directly proportional to the SAT/ACT grades, Students taking courses from cheap institutions didn’t get that quality of education required to score higher on the test, thus depicting low financial and meager education level in the test scores.

Other than that, it is also used to measure English proficiency more accurately than the standardized way of measuring through IELTS or TOEFL.
