Quebec has published a draft regulation that provides more information on three new pilot programmes on immigration for specific occupations.
The details were put forward on Wednesday, 28 October, in the Gazette officielle du Québec.
According to the Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration (MIFI), each pilot programme will last for five years and will involve up to 550 candidates per year and their family members.
The pilots, initially announced in May and July this year, will target beneficiaries (orders), food processing staff and artificial intelligence, IT and visual effects.
“These acts would encourage immigrants to contribute completely to Quebec society ‘s growth by opting to settle in these areas and work in them,” Quebec immigration minister Nadine Girault said.

The pilot for permanent immigration of beneficiary employees is intended to fix the so-called “glaring employment shortage” in Quebec.
The food processing pilot offers a route for temporary foreign workers in a sector with ‘sensitive labour needs’ to permanent residence.
The pilot for workers in artificial intelligence, IT and visual effects aims to draw foreign talent and to allow temporary workers to become permanent residents already in Québec. Half of the 550 applicants would be artificial intelligence staff with the remaining quota split evenly among the other two classes.
