What is Universal Health Care?

Before going to shed light on the pros and cons of Universal Health Care, is it very important to understand what Universal Health Care is? Let us understand the primary proverb of the title.

Introduction to Universal Health Care

UHC is the abbreviation of Universal Health Care. Universal Health Care makes sure that all the individuals and communities are getting the required health care facilities. It aims to provide all individuals, groups, and communities the equal opportunities for health care. UHC ensures the provision of high-quality and essential health care services. It also makes sure the prevention and treatment of different diseases.

UHC also deals with the rehabilitation of the patients. To deliver these services to the needy, workers of health and care are appointed who have optimal skills to deal with all such matters wisely. The members of UHC make strategies to wisely deal with all the consequences and take care of the situations in which any new pandemic outbreaks and the poor people have to use up their life savings and sell assets to save their lives. The primary purpose of UHC is to ensure the provision of health and facilities.

Can We Monitor Universal Health Care UHC?

Yes, we can monitor Universal Health Care. Monitoring UHC is achieved in two steps.

  • Taking the proportion of the population using the health and care quality services.
  • Considering the proportion of the population spending the household income on health and care services.

Pros and Cons of Universal Health Care (UHC)

In this article, we will elaborate on the pros and cons of Universal Health Care (UHC) thoroughly. We will discuss each and every point and factor of pros and cons for better understanding and learning. Let us discuss the pros of Universal Health Care first.

Pros of Universal Health Care (UHC)

The most significant advantage of Universal Health Care is that every citizen who is legal to his country can access quality health and care services even though the citizen can pay for the health and care services or not. The World Health Organization WHO states that health and care is the most basic need that a citizen must have access to. There are numerous benefits and advantages of Universal Health Care (UHC). Following are the most essential and considerable advantages of UHC:

A Uniform Standard of Care

Universal health care (UHC) is also essential as it maintains uniformity in health and care services. UHC ignores all the differences and the ability of the people to pay for the services and health care and provides them all with the same services.

The eradication and elimination of profit from health and care also promote the uniformity and equality of the levels of the citizens.

Lower Costs

With universal health care, the cost is very low for the health care seekers and the health care staff. The reason behind this is that UHC hasn’t to deal with any of the insurance companies. The government regulates all the funds and maintains all the health and care services and standards. This causes the administration cost to be zero, and the caretakers and practitioners do not have to pay for it as they have no concern with the insurance companies.

UHC Is Far Better than Privatized Centers

The privatized health and care centers are very expensive for a typical person. In general, an ordinary person can’t afford access to a general physician privately. Similarly, an ordinary person can not afford the essential medicines necessary to take. The private rooms of private health and care centers are too expensive that it is out of the reach of middle-class people. However, with UHC, there is no need to worry about all such factors. The government is responsible for coping with all the above-mentioned factors and facilitating the people in every possible way.

Cons of Universal Health Care (UHC)

As we have discussed the pros and advantages of UHC, now we are going to elaborate on the cons and negative factors of Universal Health Care (UHC). Following are the cons of Universal Health Care (UHC):

Effects of UHC on Individuality

At the individual level, the most significant disadvantage of UHC is that each individual has to pay the same amount, regardless of how big or little the disease is. In this case, sometimes other people have to pay for those who suffer from serious ailments.

Extends the Time to Wait for the Procedure

By UHC, the patients and health care seekers have to wait for longer to get the dates and processing for their procedure. This all depends upon the funds given by the government. So, this is the most considerable disadvantage of UHC.

UHC Sustains the Cost of Government Budget

As the government is fully responsible for providing funds to UHC, so a large portion of the budget is allocated for UHC to provide uninterrupted quality health and care services to the individuals and communities. Approximately 40% of the budget is allocated separately for the health and care sector for this purpose.

UHC Avoids the Practice of Expensive Procedures

To preserve the funds and resources, UHC restrains adopting the expensive and new procedures that cost a lot just because of the failure of the particular procedure. Instead of adopting new technological ways to treat a particular ailment, alternate, cheaper methods are adopted.
