Pros and Cons of Cloth Diapers

In this article, we are going to talk about the pros and cons of cloth diapers. There exit few cons to cloth diapering but there are also present unique benefits to using these cloth diapers. We have shared here both sides of cloth diapering and in both ways used disposables and cloth between two kids.

Pros of Using Cloth Diapers

First of all, let’s have a look at the pros of using cloth diapers and these are as follows:

1) Better and Beneficial for the Environment

The EPA reports that about 27 billion used disposable diapers get dumped into landfills each year here in the US alone and under this planet grow we are eventually going out to run of landfill space. To address this major issue is comparing than resources required distributing disposable diapers vs. making and maintaining cloth diapers.

On the other hand, both make use of a significant amount of resources and the use of disposable diapers creates tons of extra wastage on regular basis.

2) Cheaper than Disposable Ones

One of the major advantages of using cloth diapers besides the fact that they are healthier for babies. Choose one of the priciest options unless you have a serious cloth addiction problem. Who does not love saving money and cloth diapers tend to be cheaper than using disposables. Even in few months depending upon your choices you can typically recoup the initial cloth diaper investment within the first year. When you opt for cloth diapers, it means that you are most likely to use cloth wipes as well as will save you money in the long run.

Moreover, we also used inexpensive Gerber white washcloths for cloth wipes and the size was just right because they are smooth on one side and textured on the other did the job perfectly.

They also help surprisingly well and the best part is if you have more kids on and keep your diaper stash. Then you are most likely them just for the cost of running the washer/ dryer and the price of laundry detergent.

3) Earlier and Easier Potty Training

This is one of the major advantages of cloth diapers over disposables seems to be working for most kids and cloth diapered kids often offer potty training earlier. They are also well aware of the wetness that happens and unlike disposable diapers where moisture is wicked and locked away, then the immediate feedback of wetness helps the kids to connect the dots further.

4) Reliability of Cloth Diapers

You must be annoying about the blowouts that happen the way too often in disposable diapers and the kind that comes up the neck and ruins the cutest outfits and never really wastes out.

Hands-down cloth diapers win over disposables in their ability to contain poop and this is another major benefit of cloth diapers that is seen most with a breastfed infant.

5) Creates Awareness About Cloth Diapers

When you use cloth diapers for your kids, you are most likely to create awareness and spread the conversation on this topic. It is easier for parents to give cloth diapering a try if they see others using cloth diapers happily.

There are many benefits of cloth diapers and few areas where we think that cloth beat disposables and it is one of the major pros of spreading the word about cloth diapers.

6) Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers can be used over and over again and they should last through more than one child if you take good care of them.

When they are no longer needed, you can also repurpose cloth diapers and donate them or sell them to recuperate some of the cost back.

7) Healthier for your Baby

Modern cloth diapers allow for better airflow and contain significantly fewer chemicals that could irritate a baby’s sensitive skin in comparison with disposable diapers.

Allergic reactions and diaper rushes are significantly common when using cloth diapers and there is an obvious tipping point for many parents weighing the pros and cons of cloth diapers.

8) Cloth Diapers are Versatile

Another pro that should be well aware of considering the pros and cons of cloth diapers is that you have a unique option that you don’t get with disposable ones.

These are as follows:

Did you need more absorbency? All you need is to double the cloth insert or you can use thin super absorbent hemp doublers.

When you are on your way and can’t check baby diaper often? Now you need to apply a fleece liner to help keep the baby’s skin dry.

On the other hand, being present at home apply a soft natural fiber that can be there next to your baby’s skin.

A cloth diaper cover with no insert can double up as a swim diaper too it works much better than a disposable swim diaper.

Cons of Cloth Diapers

It’s time to switch towards the cons of cloth diapers and these are as follows:

1) Are not Absorbent as Compared to Disposable Diapers

You need to check and change cloth diapers much more often than you would be with a disposable diaper and unless you use a liner that wicks away moisture from the baby’s skin.

Cloth diapers still need to be changed more often than disposables even when you are using something like fleece liner that keeps the baby’s skin dry. On the other hand, they are not absorbent as disposable diapers which are often stuffed with chemical super absorbers.

2) Cloth Diapers are not Convenient and Safe as Compared with Disposable Diapers

Cloth diapers in real are not convenient and a cloth diaper seems like the most inconvenient product made in the world of parenthood.

It may take some practice learning to use cloth diapers.

Many daycares don’t accept babies who are utilizing cloth diapers.

Most of the cloth diapers need to be changed significantly more than disposable ones.

You will need to carry the soiled diaper with you when you change a cloth diaper out of your home.

You are dealing with poop a lot and you need to wash the diapers regularly.

3) Cloth Diapers Need To Be Wasted More Frequently Than Disposable Ones

It is one of the biggest cons of cloth diapers and we have better things to do than to create more laundry and just be honest soiled diapers are gross and cloth diapers need to be washed.

Listed above are the pros and cons of cloth diapers over disposable ones which need to be kept in mind.
