Norway Expands More Categories of Candidates to Enter in the Country

The Norwegian authorities have decided to include several other categories in the list of people who may enter Norway in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision was taken in view of the continuing fall in the number of infections with coronavirus in Norway.

As the situation is improving in Norway, there are also been a relaxation in various other measures. Norway’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security has decided to allow more European Economic Area [EEA] citizens to come to the country.

The changes allow seasonal workers who are going to work in agriculture or the green industry to enter Norway, according to a press release from this Ministry.

Minister of Justice Monica Mæland said regarding the decision said,” “I am pleased to announce that we have now adopted further softening of the expulsion regulations, which are important for farming and families living in various EEA countries”.

The family members of EEA citizens, as well as family members of Norwegian citizens, will be considered eligible for travel to Norway as soon as the decision becomes effective. This will include EEA citizens who own Norwegian real estate in the form of a vacation home or a second home. Such EEA citizens are allowed to visit their Norwegian property.

The Norwegian authorities are working to facilitate that process as smooth as possible. But not all conditions, such as air traffic and internal travel restrictions in the countries concerned, are controlled.

Family members of EEA citizens include:

  • Spouse,
  • Cohabitant,
  • Fiancé,
  • Children who are under the age of 21 or who are supported by the EEA citizen,
  • Parents who are supported by the EEA citizen

Notwithstanding COVID-19 relaxation of special measures in view of a decrease in infection, all those entering Norway will be expected to remain in quarantine for two weeks as per the law.
