Often students, who want to make a few extra bucks, want to land a job at McDonald’s. But it is not as easy as it sounds. Apart from the application form, you need to clear the interview round to get a McDonald’s job. Don’t worry! Here are a few common questions that are asked by the interviewer during a McDonald’s job interview!

  • Do you have any questions for us?

What do you know about the brand ‘McDonalds’?

McDonald’s is responsible for revolutionizing the fast-food chain industry. It is a global brand that has over38695 restaurants all over the world. It was founded in the year 1940, and it started as a humble hamburger joint. On the arrival of Ray Kroc, things started changing. Apart from serving the usual classics on the menu, there are specials and tailored menu available which is in sync with the local population. McDonald’s logo is an ‘M,’ representing the arch that was a trademark sign of this brand’s initial restaurants. McDonald’s is known for its affordability as well as fast service. Along with fast food, there are healthier options available on the menu to appeal to a broader customer range.

Why do you think you should work at McDonald’s?

You need to state that McDonald’s is a vast corporation and want to be a part of the family. You can mention that almost 50% of the franchise owners of McDonald’s started with a job behind the counter. Let them know that you are in it for the long haul. You want to climb up the ladder and one-day work in one of the corporation’s managerial positions. If you are a student, try to highlight that you need to earn money and be independent. Let them know that it is a great way to pay for your education. Since McDonald’s is a fast-food joint, you will have to interact with a lot of customers. It would be best if you told them thar you are good at communicating with others and enjoy working in the service industry. Don’t forget to mention that it would be an honor to work and represent McDonald’s.

What do you mean by ‘ideal customer service’?

You need to state that it means tending to the needs of the customer. It would be best if you always mentioned that it is essential to have a welcoming and warm attitude. It would be to take down theorders correctly and serve the food as soon as possible in McDonald’s. It would be best if you also mentioned that even during the rush hours, the service quality should not be degraded. Ideal customer service also entails maintaining the hygiene standards, especially during the covid-19 pandemic. If a customer is from a vulnerable group, they should be provided with special assistance without making them feel incompetent.

How many hours can you put in?

Try to be as honest as possible—McDonald’s provides service 24/7. Your chances of getting hired will increase if you are flexible with your work timings. Do not worry if you are unable to join as a full-time employee. McDonald’s employs both full-time as well as part-time employees.

How would you deal with a customer who is upset or angry?

It would be best to show your interviewer that you are a calm headed person who can handle such tricky situations. It would be best to mention that you will not lose your calm and respond immediately to the customer’s needs. The key is to listen to the customer and know their problems. You have to show the customer that you care and not blame the company or the customer. The next thing is to find a viable solution to the problem presented by the customer. However, it would be best if you mentioned that making false promises is never the solution. It would be best if you mentioned to the interviewer that you would not take the incident personally to hamper your work in the future.

What are your expectations when it comes to the salary?

It would be best to quote a price that falls within the range of what McDonald’s employees get. If you ask for a lot, you will not be hired. Similarly, if you ask for a lesser amount, you will get hired, but you will be underpaid. Try to research online about the average salary range of a McDonald’s employee. On average, McDonald’s employee is paid $9 per hour. However, the rates might be based on your geographical location. Try to quote a price that falls within the average range but at the higher end.

What is your greatest strength?

You have to try and highlight the points that will be required for a McDonald’s employee. Tell the interviewer that you are a quick learner and you work well under pressure. This would mean that you will be able to handle the rush hours. Try to highlight the point that you are great at working in teams as well. In McDonald’s, you will have to coordinate with others, and hence, this point is crucial. Don’t forget to highlight your communication skills and interact with people from all age groups.

What is your favourite item on the McDonalds menu?

This is your chance to show that you genuinely like the food served at McDonald’s. You have to express that you are a fan of McDonald’s and sell it to the customers who wall in. List a few favorites of yours and describe them in detail. It will help the interviewer know that you can entice the customers by talking about the food passionately.

Do you have any questions for us?

Even if you do not have any queries, it is better to ask one or two questions to tour interviewer. It shows that you are interested in getting the job and want to know more about it. In case you do not have any question in mind, here are a few questions you can ask:

  • How many hours should a prospective McDonalds employee be able to provide?
  • What kind of training will be given if you get hired?
  • What does your employee like the best about working at McDonald’s?
