McDonald’s Careers – How to Get a Job at McDonald’s?

September 15, 2020 //  by Amit Kumar

Quintessential of American fast-food chains, McDonald’s is not only the fastest-selling fast-food chain but a household name. With a new store popping at different locations every day, it is safe to say that McDonald’s is always eager to hire new employees.

For students who are looking for a side-gig during the summer or those who aspire to climb the ranks to become a manager of one of the locations of this prestigious chain, there is excellent news.

McDonald’s accepts online entries that will help people apply for positions much more comfortably. There is no need to visit the physical store; you can start your journey right from home.

McDonald’s usually has several positions to fill, with varying schedules. Hence, this job offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to timings. Once selected, you can schedule your shifts according to ensure that your work does not become overwhelming. This flexibility is also the reason why several students prefer McDonald’s as their part-time job since they can work around their classes.

How Do You Apply for a Job at McDonald’s?

Whether you are only looking for a part-time opportunity, or you want to get your foot into the company through an entry-level job, it is easy to apply for a position at McDonald’s. Read on carefully to ensure that you have all of the necessary information ready to fill your application.

Before you apply for a position at McDonald’s, here is what you need to keep in mind:

Minimum Age

Depending on the laws and regulations of the state that you live in, the minimum age of hiring will vary. While some locations may hire 14-year olds to work as a cashier or other non-food related jobs, in most cases, the minimum age of hiring is 16. To qualify for a managerial position. You will need to be 18 years old or above.

Store Timings

If you are only looking for a part-time job, or have some time restrictions, then it is best to check the timing for the store location that you will apply to. While some store locations only operate from 10 AM to 5 PM, other areas may serve customers 24 hours. The store timings will also help you adjudge how many personnel a store location would need; generally, those locations that offer 24-hour service require more personnel than the ones that operate 10 AM to 5 PM.

Keep Time Aside

McDonald’s has a thorough application process, and if you think it will only take a few minutes, you are wrong. McDonald’s likes to know their employees thoroughly, and hence, you may be filling out the application for close to an hour. Therefore, you should confirm that you have enough time in hand.

If you do not want to apply online, you can visit any McDonald’s store location and ask them for an application. Usually, every store has a few application forms ready to go. Or, you can visit their website and get a printout of the PDF of the document.

Tips for a Better Application

While every application has the same questions that every applicant must fill out, there are a few ways in which you can make your application stand out. Some of the following tips can help you ensure that recruiters notice your applications and that you get a call. Here is how you can improve your application:

Include Every Information

While the McDonald’s application is quite extensive, it is not necessary to fill in every information. Questions with an asterisk next to it are compulsory. Hence, whether or not you want to provide them with additional information is entirely voluntary. However, to get your application noticed, it is best to include as much information about yourself as you can.

The information ranges from details such as your age, location, availability, and your employment history. Usually, McDonald’s asks for employment history only for three jobs. Still, if necessary, you can ask for another form to include more information about any other place that you worked at. If you have ever worked at any McDonald’s location before, they will also ask you to provide information related to the same.

Relocation

If you are able and willing to relocate, it is best to include that information. This will ensure that the recruiters know that you are eager to move to a different place to work for them. Hence, if your city does not have any jobs available at the moment, but another city does, you have the opportunity to work there as well. In some cases, they may be willing to pay for your relocation as well. This helps the recruiters see that you are eager to work for the company.

Stay Calm

As mentioned earlier, the McDonalds’ application is lengthy, and they have several multiple-choice questions that you must answer. In some cases, you may feel as though none of the options fit your responses. Or you may not be able to comprehend the possibilities fully; in such cases, it is best to choose the response which is closest to being right or closest to what you are thinking. Make sure that you take your time when completing this assessment, as it is lengthy. Try not to be nervous when you see too many questions, as this is a standard procedure for any McDonald’s application.

Check Your Email

Once you have filled the application form and completed the assessment, you will receive a confirmation email from McDonald’s confirming that they have received your application. Read this email thoroughly, as it lists the location that you have applied to, and you can ensure that they have received the right information.

Follow-up

From McDonald’s website itself, you get the information that McDonald’s usually contacts the applicant regarding their application within seven to ten days. Suppose you have still not heard anything about your application after ten days. In that case, you can call the store location that you have applied to and ask them whether they have received their application or know anything about the status of your application. If they have not received your application, you can fill it out again on McDonald’s official website.

Once you have submitted your application successfully, you can sit back and wait for the results. McDonald’s is prompt about responding to their applications so that you will hear from them soon. In the meant time if you know anyone else who has worked for McDonald’s, you can pick their brain about what you can expect from the future steps.
