Manitoba Invites 272 Immigration Candidates to Apply for a Provincial Nomination

With Ontario in the East and Saskatchewan in the west, Manitoba is a beautiful and famous Canadian province. Thousands of international students flock to Manitoba every year to pursue their higher studies.

In 2021, it is expected that a massive number of international students will come to Manitoba. The government has invited 272 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

Manitoba issued invitations to both international students and skilled workers

Manitoba has sent invitations to 272 immigration candidates and skilled workers to apply for a provincial nomination by mid-January 2021 under

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).

International students and skilled workers can apply for three immigration streams, and they are as follows:

International Education Stream

Skilled Workers Overseas

Skilled Workers in Manitoba

Let us look at the breakdown of the invitations and the minimum score that candidates need to have.

Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) is the formal name of invitations. The minimum Expression of Interest (EOI) scores and The breakdown of the invitations are given below.

Two hundred thirty-six seats for skilled workers in Manitoba. The minimum eligibility score is 461.

Seven seats for international skilled workers. The minimum Expression of Interest (EOI) score is 722.

Twenty-nine seats for the International Education Stream. Fortunately, there is no EOI score requirement.

Manitoba government has sent 18 invitations to Express Entry candidates. So the rest 254 candidates are eligible to participate in the programs.

Reasons to reject candidates

Candidates will be rejected under the following circumstances.

When they do not have a job seeker validation code.

When they do not have a verifiable experience in a profession listed in Manitoba’s In-demand Occupations list.

When they do not have a proper express entry ID.

The MPNP sent invitations to skilled worker overseas candidates as a part of the strategic recruitment initiative.

What about the candidates who got high scores but did not receive the invitations?

Well, that can happen under the following circumstances:

Candidates did not have a good test number in their third-party language test.

The language test results of candidates are no longer valid.

The MPNP sent invitations to candidates as part of the strategic recruitment initiative. Got the candidates failed to send a proper valid invitation number.

What can the candidates do in these situations?

The MPNP has given a straightforward solution to candidates. They can update their profile with valid details and wait for the new draw in the next year.

Working professionals in a registered and legal occupation have received invitations. The MPNP has specified that they can reject candidates who are not working in a legal or registered profession. They may also reject candidates for not having valid proof of completing all licensing steps for getting employed in Manitoba. Those candidates will not receive invitations in the future.

Manitoba immigration streams

There are two categories in the Manitoba immigration streams. The first one is the Skilled Workers Overseas Category. And the second one is the Skilled Workers. The streams help the province to select skilled workers who can meet the demands of the labor market.

Overseas candidates are eligible to participate in the streams only when they have a proper connection to Manitoba. If they have friends or family members in the province, they can participate in the program. Again, if they have prior work experience in the area or an invitation as part of the MPNP’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives, they are also eligible for the streams.

Overseas candidates can submit online applications. They don’t have to be present physically in the province to complete the application process.

Candidates can qualify in the skilled workers’ category only if they fulfill the eligibility criteria. For example, they have to show a permanent job offer from a company in Manitoba.

International students who graduated from a school in the province can receive an LAA as part of the International Education Stream, provided they have the required skills.

Express Entry Manitoba

It is the conventional way of receiving a provincial nomination in Manitoba. Candidates have to create a profile in the federal government’s Express Entry system.

The government selects the candidate for express entry with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. They calculate this score based on several factors like work experience, education, age, and language proficiency.

Candidates who get the highest score receive invitations so that they can  apply for permanent residency in Canada through the express entry pool.

Fortunate candidates who qualify for a provincial nomination receive a bonus of 600 CRS points. Furthermore, they receive an invitation to Apply (ITA) from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.

A new department for immigrants and domestic students

The Manitoba government has opened a new department to attract international students and boost immigration.

The new department will execute the post-covid-19 recovery plan. They will take care of advanced education, immigration, and skills.

The Covid-19 recovery plan aims to help people get back their work and create new job opportunities for domestic and overseas candidates. The program seeks to welcome immigrants in Canada.

The new department will shoulder many responsibilities. They will create educational institutions that will help prepare students to meet the present and future demands of labor markets. They will set up education institutions that will focus on developing need-based skills in the students. And that will help the domestic and overseas students to explore job opportunities in the province.

Any education program is of no use if students do not get jobs. Unless the unemployment rate goes down and people get jobs, the country’s economic condition will not improve. Canada is taking small steps to boost the economy of the country. The new department is a small part of their initiative to revive the economic condition of the country.

Conclusion

International students and skilled workers are happy with the initiative of Manitoba province. It is expected that an increasing number of overseas students and skilled workers will be attracted to new programs in Manitoba. It is high time other regions walk in Manitoba footsteps and boost immigration to revive its financial health. Let’s hope that Canada will come with more new programs for overseas students and workers in 2021.
