International Students May Benefit From the New Immigration System in Ontario

You are here: Home / News / International Students May Benefit From the New Immigration System in Ontario

March 22, 2021 //  by Amit Kumar

If you are planning to visit or are new to Ontario, make sure you stay updated and educated about the new immigration system’s unique advantage in Ontario. The upgraded system of Ontario might come as one of those truly meant policies for the betterment of hard-working people with potential. This is also an excellent opportunity for students who wish to study abroad and settle for a job.

The new system plans to categorize and register, which is an excellent planning and structuring scheme. It also is a good system that will not serve anyone who applies but for those who wish to showcase their talents via foreign education or residentship.

Ontario Immigration registration system will be changed within the coming weeks for the five economic class immigration streams. Previously known as the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), or the first-come-first-serve model, will be now changed to an Expression Of Interest (EOI) system. Although this EOI system is also being followed by other countries like Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia, the Ontario government decided that this the correct way to provide residentship to consume the best of international talents.

What are OINP, EOI, and Express Entry?

OINP is an immigration program that promotes an individual and their families for a permanent residentship based on the job they were pre-signed for in the state. This system lets skilled laborers reside permanently and work for the country. Students can apply for the program registration and get assigned as students first and then as workers.

EOI is a system that will mark the rank of the candidates based on human capital and labor market factors. The system will be applied to the following streams:

  • International Student stream
  • Masters Graduate stream
  • Foreign worker stream
  • Ph.D. Graduate stream
  • In-Demand Skill stream

Express Entry is an immigration system that the Ontario government has used. Through this system, the Government provides permanent residence to workers, fulfilling the country’s requirements and taking the place of missing skilled workers. However, the Express Entry system applies to both international students and skilled-labors.

How is EOI going to change the current immigration system?

Targeting skilled workers like accountants, nurses, investment, and managers,

the state had assigned around 754 Express Entry candidates to apply for provincial nomination via OINP. However, few candidates could not get themselves registered due to high traffic on the server. The online detail filling portal charged at least 3 hours to complete the entire process.

Now, to make sure everyone gets their names registered, the system will be proceeding with a method. At first, you need to submit a resume with your education and work experience. Once done, your details will be rated with a provincial score. If you get a high provincial score, you will be invited to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence. After you get registered, you can now begin your future days as an Ontario citizen.

How is this beneficial for international students?

International students mean a lot to the Canadian Government and the country’s economy. Most of the bright international students lay aback due to heavy traffic issues. However, the system change can give everybody the same amount of time to prepare and apply for the registration. Once the students get into their universities, the advantages rise and open roads to different foreign countries’ opportunities.
