International students’ first preference to be the U.S.

According to the International Education Cooperation Study 2020, the United States has welcomed over 1 million international students for the fifth straight year.

This report was issued by the Institute of International Education and the U.S. State Department of Education and Cultural Affairs on Monday, covering the 2019- 2020 U.S. academic year. In the survey, the overall number of students from Nepal decreased by 3.8% in 2019, Nepal remained the 12th largest community of students in the world.

For Nepalese students who plan to study abroad, the United States remains the preferred destination.

The U.S. urges prospective Nepali students today, also in the middle of the pandemic, to explore U.S. higher education institutions, according to a U.S. Embassy press release in Kathmandu. These institutes offer various registration options, such as online and postponement opportunities, so that the embassy can resume regular visa services as quickly as possible so that students can follow their research dreams in America.

The U.S. Embassy in Nepal continues to contribute to help Nepalese students prepare for their education in the United States through online services. In contrast, international education and exchanges have been impacted by COVID-19.

The embassy currently holds interactive consultation meetings, webinars, college visual activities and invites students to access its social media sites daily.

The embassy is celebrating International Education Week (IEW) — a collaborative U.S. government and U.S. Department of an education programme that aims to draw potential leaders to the U.S. from 16 to 20 November.

The U.S. Embassy in Nepal, the U.S. Educational Foundation Nepal and the U.S. Spaces are organising several activities in support of the IEW 2020 programme. The following include the initiative “Student Visa Marketing” with U.S. and Nepali graduates, and a series of webinars with U.S. universities.

The week of activities promotes higher education by Nepali students in developing their educational plans and pursuing their objectives because today’s investment in a U.S. degree is an investment in a successful future, the statement said.
