What is the American Dream?

The American dream is a sensation that has remained in the American society for quite a while now. This dream, too many people, is success based on how it started and what progress is achieved. The idea has been a propelling force for people who want to enter the United States in a bid to live a better life.

Years ago, the dream was a simplistic idea of pushing forward to accomplish all that the parents were not able to achieve. The philosophy behind it was a simple one at the time; children should have a better chance of succeeding through education; anybody who comes into the United States should be able to live freely.

The beginning of the postmodern age pushed the Americans to embrace the mindset that no one should be segregated or discriminated against regardless of their skin colour, religion, ethnicity, class, or cultural background.

What Should Your American Essay Do?

Your American essay should be able to:

  • Inspire and encourage youths to keep moving and remain committed to achieving their goals.
  • Show both sides of the coin; the good, bad, and the ugly.
  • Illustrate that youths can be determined to improve their lives.

How to Write the Introduction?

Just like any other type of essay, the American essay too must have an outline. There should be an introduction, a hook, a thesis statement, a body, and a conclusion. That is the standard requirement for any essay.

Your introductory paragraph should give readers an insight into your main argument. It should begin with a discussion of the American dream subject of your choice and supply a reasonable idea to prepare them for your thesis statement, which comes at the end of this section. You can begin with a hook and end with a thesis statement.

Why Use a Hook?

A right hook in your American dream essay can set you apart, and earn you mind-blowing grades. Use hooks to magnet your readers to your paper. It could assume different forms, including; thought-initiating questions, intriguing quotes, amusing quotes, statistics, and facts.

Question Hooks

You can incorporate a catch in the form of a question. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a yes or no question but should intrigue your reader enough that he/she would want to continue reading.

For example, are you aware that the American dream is not a new vision and introduced by James Adams, a renowned writer, and historian in 1931?

Anecdote Hook

A sense of humour can also do the trick here. Incorporate it like a pro, and you might see your grades double up.

For example: Why is it referred to as the American dream? It is because you need to be asleep to believe it.

Quote Hook

To use your hook, you could opt for a literary quote instead. Many great authors have their definition of the American dream. Find an excellent author and use a good quote from their written work.

For example, the famous writer John Grisham said: “if wealth is accumulated by doing hard work, all African women would be rich.”

Stating your Thesis

You could start your thesis statement like this;

  • My vision of the American Dream definition is?
  • I believe that the American Dream evolution was
  • For me, the American Dream is,

The Body Paragraphs

The body of your American dream essay should comprise of the following key elements:

  • Each paragraph should have a separate topic sentence that focuses on a unique central idea or viewpoint;
  • Sufficient information, such as quotes, facts, statistics, and other relevant forms of data to substantiate it;
  • A concluding sentence which sums up all details with the inclusion of smooth transitions.

The Essay Conclusion

Your conclusion should reiterate your major claim and summarize what you discuss all through the body of the essay. Don’t know how? Reexamine or analyze your thesis statement, and end your essay by leaving a comment or offer a further study.

Sample of American Dream Essay

“4 Freedoms for All”

The introduction

Ronald McDonald once stated four identifiable types of freedoms: freedom of speech and expression, freedom from want, freedom of religion, and freedom from fear. Reminiscing on what the American Dream means to me, I build and establish my life upon these four freedoms.

The Thesis

My biggest desire is to obtain these four crucial freedoms, not just for myself, but for every human on the face of the earth because everyone should be entitled to liberty, and this is what I dream of.

The Body Paragraphs with Clear Topic Sentences

The freedom to express oneself through thoughts and beliefs in the United States is what makes the country very powerful, with diverse opinions shared towards a common good.

Over the years, we have seen armed conflicts arise from religion and faith disputes. Therefore, I hope that people learn from American, where people of different races and cultural backgrounds co-exist and live together in harmony.

Considering what most people think, that America is great because of its wealth and glory, writing such essays, I do not believe this is what makes America great

Committed and patient, I always endeavour to eliminate fear by turning to volunteer work and sports.

The Conclusion

America is so strong because it does not limit its prominence and wisdom to only its citizens, but shares it with others, helping as many as possible to obtain freedom and knowledge.

Call to Action

Every individual needs to envisage what can be done to make American life meaningful, based on selflessness, altruism, knowledge, and mutual respect.

Conclusion

Writing your American dream essay just got more comfortable with a clear and simple explanation in this article. One should remember that every piece requires a standard structure of having a head, body, and conclusion. That is the overall backbone of a properly structured essay.

Next is the incorporation of the appropriate content in each section. Do not forget that for each paragraph within the body. There should be a single topic sentence that focuses on one idea, a hook and thesis statement for the introductory section, and a conclusion that restates the thesis statement.
