How to Study Effectively in Short Time?

You are here: Home / Blog / How to Study Effectively in Short Time?

October 3, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

In today’s competitive world, studying is becoming tough day by day. Students try hard to learn their subject or course, but when it comes to delivering in the exam, the result is not as what is expected. They do hard work, but smart work in learning effectively is missing. Practically it has been observed that studying smartly is much better than studying hard. Covering the whole topic in a short time is not possible.

Depending on what type of learner you are, decide how you want to learn. We have pointed down some of the ways you can use to learn effectively in a short time:

Table of Contents

  • Notes review:
  • Pretend to teach someone else:
  • Walk before the exam:
  • Sleep well
  • Short time study
  • Understanding is the key
  • Join a study group
  • Breaks

Notes review:

Each day after class make a practice of reviewing the notes. While preparing for exams, the study time will be minimized with this practice. Going through notes every day from school will help to learn things before the exam and get prepared. Don’t stuff things as it will not help. Stuffing will only be short-time memory and get vanished soon.

Pretend to teach someone else:

According to a study, pretending to teach someone while learning your course will help to speed up learning and remember more. When your brain assumes that you need to teach someone else the responsibility becomes stronger. This perception changes the expectation of mind and helps you to engage more in learning things in a way that will be stored inside the brain for a longer time.

By trying to teach others will help you to understand how much you know. If you don’t have anyone around you to teach, then best is to talk facing mirror or talk to some stuffed toys or pets at home.

Walk before the exam:

Exercise is not only good for body health; it’s also good for mental health. It has been proved that those 20 minutes of exercise before an exam will give better performance.

Sleep well

Short term memory information is transferred to long term memory during sleep. So, studying late night is ok but make sure to get the proper 6 hours sleep. It is important that whatever you studied should be recalled while sitting at the exam hall, which is only possible by giving good rest to the brain. Sleeping post-learning is a good tactic and sleeping between two learning sessions is also a good approach.

Short time study

Allow your brain some time to breathe, which means learning something for 30 minutes is good enough for the brain, but exceeding the time limit will not help to remember things. Give some time like 5 – 10 minutes break after every 30 minutes of learning. Always remember frequent learning sessions are better than longer infrequent learning.

Understanding is the key

Do not memorize and try to understand the topic. This is the problem with many students; they stuff things without understanding the logic behind it. Due to this, the information gets vanished from the brain and puts them in a difficult situation during the exam. They study hard but still unable to achieve good marks, and this leads to disappointment. To avoid all these problems, the key is to understand the topic which you are trying to learn. Understanding any topic will help to explain better in the exam.

Join a study group

Joining a study group saves time and exam as everyone shares their views and discuss on the topic of course. Some students in the group may have a different trick to remember things, and this can help others. In a group study, more than one brain works and helps, and it is fun too. Studying in a group motivates each other.

Breaks

It is to be understood that taking a break is no wastage of time; in fact, it helps to remember things much better. Longer time study will shatter the brain and will make you feel the crush. Brain needs time to absorb new input and stuffing too much in the brain can make congestion inside. Like said in the above point, a 30-minute study with 5 – 10 minutes break will be perfect for learning things. The break can be utilized in doing anything that you like.

Studying smartly will help to remember information in the brain. We hope these points to study effectively in a short time will help students to learn more excellently.
